Pros

Will hire people who can do the work, even if they don't have all the qualifications. Graduated from law school but have yet to take the patent bar? No problem. Patent agent with no experience? No problem.

Cons

Horrible atmosphere. Low pay. A sweat shop. No training. The legal assistants are always spying and reporting on everything that the attorneys are doing. Went to a fellow attorney's office, closed the door, and vented for a few minutes? That will be reported. The legal assistants are molly coddled and encouraged to complain about the most trivial and smallest things. It was unbelievable some of the complaints I heard.

Pros

Crash course in learning Patent Prosecution. Work here for a year and you should get credit for 5+ years of experience...at least.

Cons

Where do I start??? The lack of organization, the inability to respect and appreciate staff, the way below market pay rate, the sweatshop environment the constant reminders of how expendable you are as an employee - whether you're support staff or an attorney...pick one. They all apply. Of course, you could talk to the office "manager" about your concerns if she was ever actually there! Do NOT think this will be a secure place to work. The turnover is ridiculous and you mean NOTHING to the owner or his "management" staff. Truly an insult to the legal community.

Pros

Learned the basics of patent law by sitting and working with other legal assistants.

Cons

Office environment was very stressful and chaotic, due to high turnover and low job stability. We were constantly reminded that Texas is an "at-will" employment state and you could be let go at any time. Not conducive to doing your best work. Office manager worked from home and was hardly ever in the office.
