Pros

Working with yogis, yoga focused clients/advertisers was enjoyable but with that came some not so enjoyable experiences such as clients saying they couldn't sign a contract because Mercury was retrograding. Or let me meditate on what we talked about before we can proceed etc.

Cons

Yoga Journal which is part of Active Interest Media is led by some people who were clueless as to what was really going on with the company. Top management from Directors up to C-level executives didn't know how to interact in a genuine way with lower level employees. I brought over 1.3 mil in sales for Yoga Journal alone and my general manager didn't even make eye contact with me as we crossed paths in the office or even at the elevator! Management across the board were very old school.

The decline of Yoga Journal

Pros

Until recently a great mission, good teamwork, and staff who cared about the magazine, website, events and ancillary products--AND it's subject matter.

Cons

Fear and burnout is extreme at Yoga Journal. Most experienced positions were cut this year; remaining staff has little yoga knowledge (the subject of the business) and double the workload, while executive-level positions have increased and are better compensated than those who are left to do the actual work. The move from San Francisco to Boulder was supposed to both save the company money and to make it more efficient. Due to laying off more than seven people this year (many of whom relocated with the magazine) the bottom line may be better, but the magazine is still inefficiently silo'd and morale is in the toilet.

Pros

free books, yoga classes, lots of different magazines to read

Cons

Extremely exploitive. Unethical. Bad employees and management. Unintelligent and unethical online editors who deceive people by making false promises. Lack of honesty.
