The environment was difficult due to inconsistent leadership across multiple functions. There was a clear gap between executive messaging on automation and the team’s ability to execute on it. Team lead decisions sometimes felt biased toward favorites rather than merit, and leadership tended to commit to solutions without a clear understanding of architectural constraints or the technical debt already in the system, which pushed implementation cost onto engineering late in the cycle. Product managers often lacked clear product knowledge and gave inconsistent answers without accountability, and design quality didn’t always reflect a strong grasp of product or UX fundamentals.
