High Internal Turnover = Steer Clear

Pros

Beautiful office due to the amount of $$ the owner spends on renovations ($$ should be used towards salary increases to retain employees)

Cons

I skimmed over some of the reviews this company has received and I'm sorry, I'm not buying it. There is some MAJOR damage control being done internally as 95% of the employees that leave, leave on bad terms (dipping out on lunch breaks, etc.) This company has lost 8+ internal employees this year already! This is not a large company - that proves how unhappy people are. Do yourself a favor and steer clear if you want a promising career for your future. Hours are grueling (standard office hours are 7:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M. as well as additional hours that are necessary to complete absurd workload). To answer your next question, no, you do not receive OT. You are paid a below average salary to begin with then the work is piled on you. Reviews are not completed until nearly the second quarter of the year so that the owner can get away with paying you the absolute minimum amount required for the year (average raises are $2k-$3k annually despite the amount of extra work that has accumulated throughout the year). Favoritism is definitely shown to the owner's family as they are promoted 3x's the rate of a non-blood related employee no matter how hard they work.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on this anonymous site. Unfortunately, this policy leads to a percentage of individuals believing that they can legally say anything (e.g. disparage companies or defame individual CEOs through false content). It's not clear what your motivation for leaving this review might be. The work of the CEO and upper management involves subtle and complex human interactions like organizational restructuring, breaking down barriers between departments, coaching managers who have staffing problems, raising the caliber of people being hired and focusing organizational energy in new areas. This work is difficult enough in private. But now the CEO/management is graded, by strangers, in public view. Please, for respect of the others before the law, don't exagerate or give false information. Defamation is a crime for a reason. Be objective, keep proof for yourself, use facts. Always clean your dirty laundry at home. Leaving public feedback is not a way to solve problems, it's just a way to discredit employers. To our readers: we'd love for you to speak to our team, customers and vendors! WIth over 7k bridges throughout the globe, our myriad of clients will give you a valuable, industry wide view of our company.

Pros

ALWAYS hiring, fresh/young staff that start off eager to work, gorgeous office/location/personal boardwalk, make a lot of money in profit! A couple people who work here care and you can make good friends! Heath care at the time was EXCELLENT! Drawings are VERY detailed...usually nothing less than 50-70 pages per bridge....

Cons

Cons/Truth: Little to no growth opportunities, High Turnover rate, some not lasting 3 weeks, MUST work 7:30-5:30, w/ 1-Hr. Lunch (salary or hourly), above average stress levels, POOR salaries, POOR paid increases, Never have received any pay raises and bonuses, only talked about, don't bother learning the standards. They will change.... Senior Management looked out for them and had no problems point the finger.

Pros

Company sells a great product which leads to consistent work and plenty of overtime. Good company benefits. Field employees get to travel nationwide but never get time at home.

Cons

I am unsure why I do not see more negative comments about this company. Turn over is very high both in the office and in the field. Many employees are hired to get the company through problem times then terminated before their 90 days are up. That is if you decide to stay. Many Designers and office employees do not last 2 weeks before walking out and deciding this place is not for them. Less than half of the employees have been there longer than 2 years. High turnover indicates employees are not happy. Upper management lies regarding pay raises and bonuses. Regardless of achieving goals and being voted employee of the month, no bonuses are ever given, only talked about. While Field employees stay away from home for months at a time, they are denied vacation often when requested resulting in employees losing vacation without having the opportunity to take it or be paid for it. Even though Field Foremen are paid hourly and not salary, they are required to spend countless hours working and doing paperwork at the end of each day. This should be paid at overtime rate. I believe this practice of requiring hourly work without compensation may be illegal.

We’re sorry you had a bad experience. We’ve been in business for over 30 years, have served thousands of clients in our company’s history and strive to create the best possible experience for our YBC family, clients and vendors. Maybe we are too assertive when designing and building our client’s projects. We take what we do very seriously and work very hard to ensure that our obligations/expectations as the Premier Timber Bridge Builder are met. Days are spent planning and strategizing how to best approach and complete a project to the complete satisfaction of our clients, while still being generous to our YBC family. Your employment with our company was no different, as was our responsibility on the projects you worked on. We are passionate about what we do and we wear our heart on our sleeve when we’re working. We agree that are not your “typical” Bridge company as we are always striving to stretch our creative and technical abilities and deliver stunning structures that last for generations. These are values we find important, that may not agree with everyone - and that is ok! We are so grateful for our YBC Field & Office Family. As a small business we aim to demonstrate our gratitude by providing generous bonuses, PTOs, profit sharing plans and over triple the number of paid holidays of anyone we know! If we fell short of this, we would personally like to hear about it and see what we can do to remedy the situation. Thank you for your feedback. Have a blessed day!
