Lack of direction and vision by leadership creates dysfunction.
Pros
Staff development through outside training is good, though the practices are never allowed to be implemented, they are great tools to have for a future opportunity. Work-life balance is great and compensation is decent.
Cons
Erratic leadership, favoritism, stifling of talented staff and innovation, lack of succession planning. Disregard for job specs in many instances and inappropriate isolation of staff not "liked" by leadership. Promotional opportunities frequently extended to staff for the wrong reasons. Very poor morale through the the Health and Human Services Department due to poor direction and micromanaging of tedious job aspects while larger issues are left unaddressed. Frequent focus on image of our department rather than prioritizing real community issues that need to be addressed which results in a false sense of improvement and purpose and wastes tax payer money.
