Pros

High level of autonomy: You have decision-making authority over staffing, budgeting, service standards, and day-to-day operations. Opportunities for career development: Exposure to every department (front office, housekeeping, sales, revenue, F&B) builds well-rounded hospitality management knowledge. Direct impact on guest satisfaction: You can immediately see the results of your efforts through guest scores, reviews, and return business. Close-team environment: Working closely with staff creates strong relationships and a sense of accomplishment when the property performs well. Variety in daily tasks: No two days are the same — operations, guest issues, revenue decisions, staffing, inspections, etc

Cons

Long or irregular hours: Nights, weekends, early mornings, and holidays often come with the role, especially during staffing shortages. Heavy workload during staffing challenges: Recruiting, training, and covering shifts can become overwhelming when turnover is high.
