Pros

The tech is exciting to work on/work with.... with a big caveat.

Cons

The management is incompetent. This is especially catastrophic in such a crowded field with a tech giant (Amazon) throwing money at their own version of the tech. Due to the leadership decisions that were made, the company blindside a significant amount of their employees with an unexpected round of layoffs. After the reduction in force, many other talented individuals read the tea leaves and left on their own accord. Instead of taking a hard look at the leadership org, management kept the very same people that was leading the company to its demise in the exact same position, doing the exact same things. The work itself was unorganized and required a lot of long hours to overcome "the way things were done". The company was ran with no regards to process or any cross department collaboration since departments were ran like tiny fiefdoms.

Pros

There are a lot of pros in working at Zippin, I learnt a lot from the leadership there - The chief scientist is an innovator: he has a groundbreaking thesis titled "The denominator solution to your ML model: how removing datapoints you don't like gets us 100% accuracy" - The CTO is an exemplary example of unquestionable loyalty. Anyone else in his position would have not continued working for such founders, but he has been doing it and continues to do so. I did not get the logic of many things they did, but I am not as smart as the two founders and the CTO. - The founder is amazing at managing people: he is easily able to train and excite 100s of people sitting remotely to do some very boring stuff. He along with the chief scientist, I think are going to open a new paradigm of computing: "remote human button clicking based AI"

Cons

The problem was with me, I was not as loyal as the CTO and had my personal pride and ethics come in the way. I think the kool-aid could be stronger, people seem to be leaving this amazing startup for no apparent reason.

Pros

* A unique engineering and operational problem to be solved; * Super committed team; everyone is willing to break the "Traditional 9 to 5", if required. * Humility, no one has the "I am too good for this" attitude. Upper Management leads by example. * Global market leads to an opportunity of learning unique perspectives and challenges. * Ownership -- you own the direction of the company at this stage, a great opportunity to learn and assume leadership.

Cons

* Tech practices could improve; that's a by-product of the startup environment. * Hiring seems a bit lagging when compared to other competitors in this space.
