Awful boys club, embarrassed it's on my resumé

Pros

They manage to attract smart people. I met some great, intelligent colleagues during my time there, all of whom are gone now. They have an OK product.

Cons

This is truly the most toxic, unacceptable work environment I've ever had the displeasure of being a part of. As is echoed in many other reviews, this is a boys club where sexual harassment runs rampant and leadership does not care. I know of one sexual harassment lawsuit that was settled and at least 5 other incidents that were reported to leadership but not dealt with. I would go as far as to say that leadership is more than complicit, and actually enabling and encouraging of this culture. Despite being able to attract decent talent, this company can't retain anybody other than the sales bros that all either went to the same college or worked at the same former company as one of the main leaders. I saw women fired or pushed out to blatantly protect underperforming male middle managers that were shuffled around until they eventually were managing nobody. Of the 25 or so backfills and new hires over the course of my last year, only 2 of them were women. Zmags has leadership that acts like children. The CRO is the worst leader (and frankly employee) I've ever encountered in my career. He doesn't know how to use a calendar, does not read his emails (he openly laughs at this), and acts like he's the most important person that's ever set foot in the city. He's completely toxic and cancerous and it's difficult to imagine this company going anywhere other than straight into the ground if he is at the helm. The CEO is no better. The last point I'll make is that career growth is a complete joke here. I was promoted, the promotion was announced to the whole company, but they made me sign the new offer letter before they had my salary package finalized... Huge mistake. After making a big show of an internal promotion, I was told my salary would not change and that it was "really more of a lateral move". I still stayed another year as they strung me along with promises of growth and more money. What a regrettable waste of time. Avoid this place like the plague.

First, I want to thank you for sharing your thoughts about Zmags. We take your comments seriously and are deeply sorry you didn’t have a great experience during your time here. I’d like to address each of your comments directly. Regarding a toxic culture, we are constantly working hard to foster a community that embodies our values and provides everyone with a safe space to grow professionally. We have and always will take any claims of harassment of any kind very seriously and deal with them promptly when they were brought to our attention. Under no circumstances is that behavior tolerated at Zmags. We conduct annual trainings in this area that are mandatory for all employees to attend. We also recently hired an internal HR resource to focus on people & culture initiatives, including employee relations, attracting and retaining top talent; and, intentionally guiding Zmags culture to continue to be a place free of harassment and toxic behavior. Next, I’d like to address the claim around poor leadership. At a company our size, many of our managers and employees are often handling a number of tasks at any given time, many that are outside their core job responsibilities. Often times this creates time management difficulties, however it certainly does not excuse anyone on the leadership team from being responsive to employee needs and concerns. It is a priority for me to ensure that the leadership team is laser-focused on what’s going to drive the success of Zmags going forward, and that means getting managers and senior leaders back to their core job tasks, working closely with their teams and minimizing distractions. Regarding career growth at Zmags and your promotion, we have always been proud to promote from within whenever possible and can point to dozens of examples of employees that have advanced their respective careers here at Zmags. I’m sorry that you experienced this during your time here with us. We will be reviewing our promotion process and strategy to ensure a fair and transparent experience for all. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. If you are open to a discussion, please reach out to either me or our HR resource, Johnna Fieldman. We will gladly discuss these concerns and any others you may have. -- David P.

Pros

Location in Seaport. Pay is not great but ok.

Cons

Leadership has no idea what they’re doing. People seem to come and go seemingly on whims. Some people paid a lot to do nothing while those who produce don’t get paid much. Trusting the wrong people. Product got incredibly buggy in the past couple of years as engineering quality got worse. No stability there. Avoid at all cost.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We greatly value your feedback and suggestions for improvement. Seeing as you are a current employee, I encourage you to reach out to me or to our HR resource, Johnna Fieldman, to discuss your concerns in more detail. Regarding your comment about the product; We are working hard to continuously improve our product, releases in September have included the new HTML Widget, ADA tab order and layering/locking/hiding functionality. In addition, we were recently highlighted in YOTTAA’s 2020 third party performance report as having shown significant improvement in load speed year over year, which validates all of the performance work that has been undertaken by the team. We will be more than doubling the Development team by the middle of Nov'20 and have a number of exciting features planned for release in the next 4-6 months. As for compensation, we are committed to paying our employees fairly as determined by the market. We conduct periodic benchmarking exercises and compensation audits to ensure that everyone is paid fairly and commensurate with their experience level and job responsibilities. If you have any further suggestions on how we can further improve, we’d love to hear them. Please reach out to reach out to me or Johnna Fieldman. Again, thank you for your feedback. -- David P.
