Pros

Decent place to start a career and learn a little bit about a lot of areas. Everyone pretty much does everything from sales to marketing to operations. So, it's a good place to learn the basics here....but don't stay too long. There are better places to work and grow. Once you learn the deeper side of things you can see that they are a bit hypocritical about who they are to the public and who they actually are.

Cons

Zog recently changed direction. It used to be about satisfying the customer but now it’s about making money. Several good and honest people have been replaced with cold money-hungry employees/managers who don’t even care for their own employees. Used to have caring managers and sales reps but It’s a meat grinder now. They hire green employees and work them until they quit. Upper management has made moves to care less and less about part-time or lower level employees in order to make more money. Finally, they are NOT a "non-profit".... not even close. So, just be aware of what you are getting into.

Response from CEO Robert Herzog: Dear Former Employee - Thank you very much for your feedback. Without it we can't improve. While I do not agree with most of what you included above, there are a few areas in which we can definitely improve. 1. We embody Conscious Capitalism. We have never said we are a non-profit. While we do donate well more than 10% of our profit to charity (over $300k) last year) and give back in many other ways, we need to balance that with generating profit so we can grow, provide more opportunities for our employees and help fulfill our mission of creating real personal connections, caring communities and a sense of play into people's lives. 2. Caring is one of our Core Values - it starts with caring about the company and each other. Recently we did need to make a very difficult decision in your market regarding a key, trusted long-time employee. We know that you disagreed with our decision and we respect that. The decision was strictly based on our values and in fact was not in the best financial interest of the business. 3. Field Team - They are the face of ZogSports and we recently assigned a full-time person to own ongoing training and development for our 500 field team members, many of whom have been with us for many years. I'm not sure what we have done recently to devalue this part of our team 4. We do really care about our customers. We try to balance that caring with our mission of bringing "more" people together. It's a tough balancing act and we don't always make the right decisions but we certainly always care and try to improve our service. 5. Learning and development - This is one of our annual priorities for 2018. We do want all members of our team to continue to learn once they develop the competencies to do their jobs I hope this helps understand things from our point of view. Best regards, Rob (Founder and CEO)

Pros

There are some real pros to working at zog, coworkers are very friendly, and you can dress casually. Unfortunately, the newer reviews are not real reviews, but employees asked to write positive reviews. There is unlimited vacation, but no one is able to take advantage because of the workload. If you were to take vacation you would be on your computer/phone the entire time, you also have to have it approved by your manager and they often will approve, but then contact you while you are "on vacation"

Cons

There is no work/life balance, hours are unreasonable, management lies about how caring they are and how you will never find a company like zog, when in actuality this is very untrue.

Dear Zog Employee - Founder and CEO Robert Herzog responding here. Thank you very much for your feedback. While I am certainly disappointed to hear that you are not having a good experience at the company, we can't improve without feedback (Continuous Improvement is one of our Core Values). I'd like to respond to a few of your comments from above: 1) We have numerous employee feedback forums in place that are available to you including quarterly eNPS surveys, direct meetings with your manager and access to HR or your manager's boss (COO). We have never heard this feedback from you before. I'm not sure how we could have known if you did not tell us how you were feeling. We will certainly try to improve 2) Fake reviews - Since ZogSports has won Best Places to Work awards in 3 of the past 4 years (100% based on anonymous Employee Surveys that we never see), most of our employees clearly do love working here. It is true that we did ask employees to leave reviews so that prospective employees could better understand our culture and the jobs that they might accept. We asked people to leave a review only if they wanted to. At no time did we suggest that anyone write anything not truthful 3) Vacation and work/life balance - While there are aspects of the job that are difficult, almost everyone at the company did take at least 3 weeks of vacation in 2017 in addition to the 2 weeks we closed over the holidays. Our HR Director tracks this and does encourage people to take vacation 4) Expectations - We certainly do try to be honest and have an average employee tenure of 4+ years. It sounds like your experience is quite challenging but a bit of an anomaly at the company 5) Caring - This is one of our Core Values and we take it very seriously. I personality meet with every employee at the company 1-2x/year to discuss their dreams, learning and fun things that they want to do outside of work. I'm really sorry that you feel that we don't care about you and your experience at Zog. We do and I do. If you'd like to reach out to me directly, please do. My door is always open. Best regards, Rob
