Pros

Besides the operations department and upper management, fellow staff there are very friendly.

Cons

I have a lot of reasons to be disgusted with ZoomCare. Before getting into that however, let me first say that any positive rating on this site is from fake reviews of the company. Very few internal employees and no one that leaves ZoomCare either by will or force, EVER has nice things to say about them. And with good reason… The owners have their own agenda and could care less about who they have to step on to get there. Here are some of the reasons why you should think twice about working at ZoomCare: • I have personally witnessed the owners’ state that Billing, Associates at the clinics, and the Call Center employees are “expendable”. Their well being is not even close to a concern to them. No surprise in that those 3 departments have the highest turn around in the company. • The owner is sexist and prefers to only hire and promote attractive females. He is also one of the most un-personable people I’ve ever met in my life and many people I’ve worked with, myself included, would consistently get the impression when talking with him that he truly does not care about what you have to say, but is putting on an obvious fake smile and feigns interest before rushing out of the room. • Most all of the managers started as associates and have little to no real world working experience or post high school education in the roles they are in. This led to constant disarray in all areas of the company. They also have a mentality of being better than you and are completely oblivious to how life in real world corporations is, where the ignorance and poor planning I constantly witnessed would not be tolerated. Bad management can and will bring a company down, and ZoomCare is plagued with it. • Patient experience has usually been a plus, but as you can tell by glassdoor, working at the company is a complete joke. The owners are well aware of this and have tried to improve morale by saying they are going to focus on “Emma”, the theoretical internal employee. Nobody honestly believes this BS, and what this really translates to is that the providers (PA’s, MD’s, FNP’s, etc) of the company are the ones being focused on, as they are driving the business and also leaving by the hoards. Everyone else in the company still continues to get the shaft. • Bonuses? How about a $50 gift card, if you’re lucky? Bonuses are never given to anyone and if you go into a position at ZoomCare thinking you’ll get one, you’ll come up empty handed. • The company does not celebrate holidays. Probably because it would cost money and ZoomCare is cheap. Most all employees are expected to work on major holidays. • Don’t expect to get any type of decent salary at this company. Higher level staff form “clicks” and if they don’t think you’re a good fit in their group it doesn’t matter what your education is, how good you are at the position you’re in, and what type of background you have, you will not move up or get paid anywhere close to industry standards for your field of work. • Yearly raises for salaried employees are sparse and poor. Even as the demand in the market is thriving, ZoomCare never gives decent raises. Yet they have no problem throwing gobs of money at other areas of the company. The employees are at the bottom of the priority list as far as spending. • Benefits? A joke. Prepare for high deductibles and paying most everything out of pocket if you have any kind of hospital visit, major injury, or any other unexpected health emergency. At one point I had to drive 40 miles out of town to visit a doctor filled because of ZoomCare’s ridiculous policies of visiting an outside provider that was in a county ZoomCare clinics were in. As far as routine healthcare, my benefits barely covered me to get bi-annual teeth cleanings and yearly xrays at my dentist. Every health care institution I’ve been to outside of ZoomCare consistently reminded me of how my health insurance is the worst they’ve ever encountered, which is ironic considering their main focus right now is the “Health Plan” company insurance. • 401k? Was non matching up until a few months ago and all mutual funds took out 3-5%. The options they give you are poor at best and require you to be employed for 5 years in order for the matching to occur. • Loyalty means nothing to the owners or managers. It doesn’t matter how hard you work, how many extra hours you put in, how successful you are with projects, or how long you stay at the company. You will still be just an insignificant minion in the eyes of the owners. Someone to be driven to the ground until you quit or they think you aren’t economically viable anymore. • Clinic associates get screwed out of their breaks routinely. It got so bad at one point, discussion of forming a union was in the works. For many people in the company requesting PTO is a complete failure of a process and often ends in denial. Nobody in HQ seems to care. • Most everyone that works at ZoomCare, especially providers, use the company as a stepping stone to move on to a legitimate career with a different business. That really says something about the environment at ZoomCare. • Company meetings are absolutely useless. They provide no real information on upcoming changes, future plans, or any other relevant information someone working there would want to hear. Instead, like others have said on here, it’s the owners congratulating themselves and telling stories about the latest health magazine trends or trying to prove to themselves why ZoomCare is the best place to be. • Lots of internal, immature drama in the company consistently makes working there stressful. • Hard work done on your behalf often goes unnoticed, or worse, higher ups will take credit for accomplishing the task, even though they have no intelligence on how to do so themselves. • How management is directed to treat employees: “Managers are too busy to devote disproportionate time to getting a consistent under-performer up to par. No projects. Give the person a fair shake and then move on. You don’t have time for projects.” Or attitudes about staff that speak their mind about situations: “Don’t hire them. Don’t promote them. Get rid of them as fast as you can.” No surprise that with this kind of mentality promoted to senior management at ZoomCare, instead of an open door for discussion, your issues will be disregarded and twisted against you at a later date. • Not surprisingly for all of the reasons above, ZoomCare has the worst turnaround I have ever seen in ALL departments. Finding an employee that’s been there for over a year is a serious challenge. $10,000 rewards are offered for any internal employee that gets a provider hired for over a year. It’s that bad! All in all if you want to avoid a miserable career, stay away from ZoomCare. The owners have no idea how to successfully keep a company running long term and consistently make poor business decisions that hinder growth. Between that, bad management, being one step away from a HIPPA violation law suit, and the reasons I have listed above do you really want to gamble your income and career with a company like this?

Pros

I joined the Company because I hoped that I would be able to participate in improving the way that health care is provided in the United States. I was wrong. I don't know how to give "0" stars on this site. The Providers and Associates in the Clinics are terrific and really pour their hearts into caring for patients. The regular folks and even some of the management at the Corporate Office are really good people trying to make things work.

Cons

I worked in the Corporate Office. The environment there is incredibly tense, aggressive and intimidating. CEO Dave Sanders regularly attacks people in public meetings (weekly and monthly), even bringing people to tears. He claims that he is helping these people build a "carapace" (the hard shell of a turtle) in their character. In reality, he just enjoys embarrassing people and causing anguish for no good reason. I personally know people who have sought mental health counseling to try to address their feelings of fear and intimidation. And they have subsequently quit. He especially enjoys attacking lower level people who do not have as nimble thinking, and who have the good manners not to attack him back. The Company has quarterly planning sessions, but they are meaningless, because the plans change weekly as the CEO decides to change his mind. It is almost impossible to keep up with the changing priorities, tasks, and accountabilities. He micro-manages every detail and even if he is incorrect on what he remembers, or the directions he has previously given, he will never back down and admit his errors. Every quarter, a new list (last one was over 300 tasks long) of assignments is handed down, but resources are not made available to achieve any more than a fraction of the tasks. In terms of employer loyalty to employees, the CEO directed the termination of a number of people without notice and without severance two days before Christmas, in order to reduce costs. These people had been working very hard on the launch of a new business, but that was not recognized at all. At least one of them was terminated by email. As is noted in numerous other Glassdoor reviews, compensation adjustments have been repeatedly promised, and then decisions reversed, creating disappointment by the affected employees and has significantly impacted employee turnover, which exceeds 30% per year in some departments. As noted previously, employees and some managers are really good and really trying, but the environment kowtows them into submission, so that they acquiesce to the CEO. Even the executives have no authority and are required to submit everything to him for approval. He is seldom available to promptly make decisions. This slows things down, and then people are criticized (publicly) for missing important project delivery dates. Why did I stay so long? I was hopeful that I might be able to make a difference, but that was a mistake and I wasted years at ZoomCare. I know that this review might sound aggressive, but everything said here is completely true. You should be very thoughtful if you are contemplating going to work here, especially in the Corporate Office.
