Pros

Music, location, customers, colleagues(night ops), fun.

Cons

There’s no proper pay scheme, lower ranked staffs can hold higher salary than higher ranked staffs. Same position staffs can have difference of $1000 in pay. Pay increment like peanut. I once had an increment of $37 for an entire year. Turn over rate is high. Asked to cut cost at night ops, but hired useless position staffs for day ops. Double standard. Upper management in day ops instructed to cut ENT/OC for night ops. Yet use it for their own friends and day ops staffs. Five guys staffs came over to party. Everything under ENT. Zouk staff go over to five guys to eat. Only get discounted burgers. The time I worked in Zouk, HR team changed for at least 3 times. During exit interview, I feedback about one of the upper management, all I get from the HR was “you know there is nothing we can do right?” As long you wayang, you are safe. Once you debate, you are gone. Upper management in day ops likes to micromanage. During Covid period. Terminated all the department directors, and the CFO with no exp in technology, law, marketing, HR, creative, innovative to take over. CFO wants to create own team by approaching PT staffs that he likes and offer a management trainee roles with higher salary than most of the management. But doesn’t want to groom the current ones. When club needed help. Can make use of you until you are no longer needed, and kick you a side. Many more to list down. But the more I think. The more angry I am.

Pros

Strong brand with more than 3 decades of legacy built by passionate and people of integrity. Nice colleagues who are ever-ready to help one another. Key department heads know exactly what they are doing and have extremely hardworking and dedicated teams to execute given assignments and projects even with zero direction from the problematic leadership team. A problem-solving team of empathetic fighters that will go above and beyond to get the job done. Yet often they still get thrown under the bus by certain individuals.

Cons

Leadership is extremely incompetent. CEO is seldom around. CFO who is running the entire company micromanages like a tyrant. AP will practice quiet-firing to see how much an employee can take to test out the tolerance level of any employee that does not do his bidding and weed them out to create a team of YES minions to his requests. A P's actions are purposeful and measured- causing confusion and conflict when asked for a solution and yet often push key decision-making responsibilities away by not reading or replying his emails (or messages) or name-throwing to shift responsibilities away. He will consciously restrict opportunities for employee growth/benefit just to show his authority in the company and only used them to reconcile teething problems when he knows he is on the losing end of the fight. Habitual in being vague in requests (and choosing who they reply to) CFO will turn the blame back to the staff when not executed in their favour. The CFO will also throw temper when unable to get what he wants and uses underhanded and indirect threats to cut short discussions posed by operational staff on multiple occasions. Practice of favouritism when SOPs come into play. When events organised by inner circle vs. other departments- the aforementioned management will be nonchalant about the former yet extremely strict about the P&L with regards to events done by the latter. Even a well-experienced manager was hospitalised with panic attack due to toxic management methods by the CFO. A P enjoys bartending during operation hours for friends and guests. He also seems to enjoy creating a female centric working environment. Seeing A P chair a meeting with their limited knowledge is amusing as they try to cover up the fact that they don’t know what they are doing. The CFO has the tendency to suddenly implement new initiatives and protocols without first discussing with all the internal stakeholders (HOD and HR) and champion a personal agenda that does not seem aligned to the benefit of the company- resulting in regressive discussions (or stalemates) and wasting company and human capital resources.

Pros

Big company big brand to represent

Cons

Toxic workplace culture. Useless and spineless CEO who doesn't know how to run the company and leaves it almost entirely to the CFO who is a micro managing dictator who will kick out any employee that doesn't politically align themselves with him, using unscrupulous methods
