A bumpy startup ride.

Pros

- Flexible work schedule. - Pay is similar to market, however benefits are lacking. - Consulting work provided wide range of experience to grow capability quickly. - Startup provides opportunities to gain skill in multiple areas at the same time wearing "many hats".

Cons

- Inexperienced misaligned leadership, providing strategic direction to grow a software/consulting company, where previous leadership experience is sales and marketing. - Software solutions are technically behind the curve and not able to compete in the market. - The company took investment with the goal of building a software solution to sell. The investment was mismanaged, investing in self promotion, marketing and customer solutions rather than core technology offering. The strategic investment resulted in no material gain while sinking the company into debt and losing customer revenue pipeline. Recoup in 2023 was a 45% reduction (both voluntary and involuntary) in headcount in an attempt to remain solvent. - Company is now beholden to investor debt with the majority of the company equity owned by the investor and company founders that are no longer with the company.

Pros

Very few - the company affords you a stipend for your remote office setup, and promotes a 'no cap on paid time off' policy, but that can and Will be used against you in the court of 'leadership' opinion-makers. Trust. In. That. They have little money left from their parent investor as the initial investment was spectacularly mismanaged and led to the layoffs of 20% of the total workforce less than 60 days after the annual 'kickoff' in person meetings.

Cons

Where to start? There is no go-to-market strategy. There is no defined customer base, and there is no defined The company is attempting to define itself as a 'technology company'. They offer two software solutions in that space - ETL Automation and Portal. Neither have any defined characteristics that are differentiators in the space. Comprehensive Failure at the Leadership level. The entire C-suite exists in a factitious existence where they make decisions without merit and bound to the allegiance of the original garage band characters the company was founded upon. Toxic, Suffocating, and Uncompromising leaders make ill-founded decisions on the products and services delivered to customers leading to the ongoing demise of the company and its customer base. The 'great new idea' at the top of the year was to increase pricing by 8x to an existing customer base with a product that was already knowingly inferior to the company's competition and its customers. I'm personally ashamed of what I was asked to do and communicate to small business owners and would NEVER compromise my personal ethics again at a company's ill will. Never. Total failure of leadership of all C-level executives that pride themselves as a garage band enterprise that made it out of Tableau. I have never encountered such audacity and unprofessionalism in my 20 years of employment. This is a company that has fired 50% of their total workforce since the top of the year, resulting in a leader calling an emergency meeting and crying over their inability to capture customer payments, and simultaneously not showing up to the 5' firings over Zoom of employees that were hired specifically under that person's directive to 'grow' the business. More time was spent on book clubs and drafting mission statements than determining where revenue would be captured for business. The Marketing department should not exist. They are somehow protected by the insane leadership tactics despite investing in weeklong trade-show that comprised an entire week, included tens of thousands of dollars in expenditure, and did not book a SINGLE DOLLAR in net new revenue. And yet, the blame was deflected upon the employees in the form of layoffs and PIPs. In summary, this business is a catastrophic Failure in every respect and I would never recommend anyone either work for or do business with this organization.

Pros

Consulting / Tableau consulting is fun, challenging, and satisfying. It will help you grow your technical and business skills. If you're independent and skilled you can mostly work on your own and manage your own clients. If you are just contracting and not expecting consistent hours / jumping into any of the internal issues this could be a cool way to get in some side project consulting hours.

Cons

At the beginning of 2023 there was a change in management which changed the entire atmosphere of being on the consulting team. It went from a culture of trust, respect, transparency, and all around feeling like you were important - to pretty much the opposite. The company has pivoted away from services towards their internal products. The goal now is to push the etl tool and portals onto every single customer - without much thought about excellent services. Over half of the consulting team that was on board at the start of the year is now gone - I personally started looking just a few months after the management changes because my paycheck was unsteady, the company was not investing at all in any development for me, and I found the environment that management had created to be negative and inconsiderate of consultants. It was very unfortunate to see such a smart and dedicated consulting team be pushed to the side and treated like an afterthought. When we tried to voice our concerns about the large, negative changes to executives we were made to feel like we were just causing problems. They did not seem to listen at all.
