Pros

Zume's an interesting place. There's defiantly potential in the company filled with a lot of pleasant people but my biggest concern is management. Some people have been hired that I feel will add a lot of experience to the company and may actually correct the direction of the troubled department. I feel comfortable talking to them and don't feel like I'm being attacked. That with the handful of awesome people I work with is the only reason I stay here.

Cons

There are a few people in charge that spoil it for the rest with their lack of experience and unbelievably arrogant attitudes. Concerns have been raised many times there are issues needing to be addressed, but management doesn't care until it's an actual problem. A very reactive approach. There have been events where people have been belittled by someone in a position of power. This person preys on the individual and is a completely different person than in a group setting. This just leads to a toxic work environment where employees are scared and lack motivation because nothing they do is every "good enough". Communication is a huge problem here and has been broken for as long as I've been here. Most of the time, engineering has no clear direction of the business needs. Too much time has been spent doing "busy work". Micromanagement is strong at the company. Good luck making your own decisions, there are a select few "chosen ones" that have carte blanche to make all the decisions without taking your opinions or suggestions into account. I feel more like a code monkey than an engineer. I sure hope this isn't intentional but I have noticed systemic bias here. Get ready to work extra hard if you're a minority. Either way, intentional or not, it's unacceptable which I believe stems from the lack of experience. If the CEO or CTO read this, then seriously consider leadership training for a handful of individuals. Although, I don't believe training with help these individuals. Better yet remove them from the company; they're not hard to spot if you're looking for them.

Zume Response

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We value all feedback as it helps us understand where we need to improve and I am personally grateful for the courage you’ve shown to share your thoughts about working at Zume. Zume is focused on having a workforce that embraces everyone. We are in a time of rapid growth and change. That said, we know we’re not perfect. As we move quickly to build products and our business we need feedback to make sure we stay on track to build a great and enduring people culture. We have many programs in place (and more to come) that will ensure we have great managers and leaders who can help all our employees grow and be successful in their work and career. We’ve greatly expanded our People Team and encourage you to bring your ideas and thoughts to anyone on the team. Your People Business Partner is a great place to start (Melanna Carroll is aligned with Tech). I appreciate the feedback, as tough as it was to read--we are working hard to continue to evolve and grow every aspect of our experience for employees, and I hope we continue to use feedback (both where we are doing well, and where we have deltas) to help make Zume a great place to work for everyone as we scale as an organization. We are all excited to see where these developments will take us. Respectfully, Chris Satchell, CTO

Typical tech with Diversity Issues

Pros

Free pizza and the occasional happy hour.

Cons

Zume is another tech company who remains tone deaf on issues of diversity, specifically with people of color. If you're a PoC or woman, anticipate having the majority of work offloaded to you while you're non-PoC co-workers treat the office like an extension of their college days. And if you're a PoC, expect your peers to be promoted and rewarded, while you continue to be burdened with work. The core values they claim to live by are just props to divert attention from the rampant hypocrisy, nepotism and lack of diversity.

Disorganized. Lack of direction. No clear plan. Changed name to try to make it more appealing (check glassdoor "Zume Pizza" and you may understand why).
