Poor Leadership Everywhere

Pros

The staff is close-knit and a lot of fun. There are also TONS of PTO days (all federal holidays off, plus two weeks off for winter break and another week for a summer break). Lunch is often provided, which is very generous. During my time there there were opportunities for free class, art fair passes, and gala tickets. The built in perks are pretty good. The main office is located in Midtown Manhattan and it's easy to get to.

Cons

Leadership from the Founder/Artistic Director is nonexistent and lines of communication are very muddy. Founder/Artistic Director is insecure, highly unprofessional, has 0 curatorial vision, and has made multiple off-color comments about employees looks. Employees are not fairly compensated, and the gender gap in pay is incredibly transparent. Decisions are made on an emotional level, rather than a level-headed business level. Executive Director does not have clear understanding of what other departments do. Money is grossly mismanaged, especially when it comes to special events and artist expenses. The entire organization is run and managed very, very poorly and a high rate of turnover speaks to that.

Space to Create Disillusioned Management and Unhappy Staff

Pros

The office is located a few blocks from Grand Central. There are a lot of PTO days and lunch is generally provided.

Cons

Upper management has virtually no past experience in leadership, creating a constantly chaotic workflow that often makes no sense. Their business decisions are made on an emotional whim, adversely affecting the organization. The ridiculously high level of employee turnover only adds to the disarray, as they are generally not replaced and work is split between remaining staff. This organization has highly discriminatory business practices with little to no ethics. There is a significant wage gap, fueled by strong sexist/racist undertones. Management berates employees on a day-to-day basis and there is no formal HR solution in place.

Pros

The perks seem really great

Cons

Management is constantly clashing and terrible with communicating. You would think for such a small group it wouldn't be such a mess. Also, there is little to no room for growth. They want to pay you as little as possible in the most expensive city.
