Pros

None, except for previous team leaders who have all left the company due to some of the reasons below.

Cons

These are only some of the reasons! 1. They impose nonsensical three-day rules for typists being allocated jobs and told to finish them, or they are basically fired. These cases are received by management and left to sit in the system until they are urgent and only then allocated, which is a disgraceful way to work and highly unfair to employees. 2. Audio is often difficult to hear - it various a lot between cases - yet there is NO flexibility in meeting targets, therefore a lot of typists have to rush through and do a sub-standard job because they know Edecree doesn't care about their health, accuracy and employees. If you ask for, say, three hours audio work over three days, you are likely to get four hours and told to get it back in two days! 3. The turnover is sky high because there is absolutely no human resource management. The attitude of current team leaders is a disgrace, they are rude, insulting, unprofessional and abrupt with no supervisory skills whatsoever. 4. If new and inexperienced office-based staff make too many mistakes, the difficult cases are passed to the very poorly paid working from home team, who end up getting paid LESS THAN HALF the minimum wage due to this (which is illegal), and the fact that management have deliberately given them cases that they would have to pay employees more for if they worked in the office. Working from home employees end up having to work long hours in the evenings and weekends, so don't think it is an advantage to work from home - it's quite the opposite. 5. Things have really deteriorated since the previous team lead left. The current team lead is totally unfit for the position and has no people management skills. Necessary details for typists are no longer provided, such as trigger warnings for serious crimes. The team leader has also removed any ability to work as a team, keeping everyone in the dark about which work is allocated to who. Any concerns expressed are ignored and people immediately fired if they raise them. 6. There is NO training at all! New employees are left to 'read the Wiki' and then get on with complicated court proceedings they know nothing about. You have to be able to keep up 80 wpm for hours on end to meet targets, without breaks, which is totally unacceptable. None of the time allocated for work includes time to check work, even though the company documents say you are supposed to do this. 7. An example - Typing at 80 wpm (the requirement) means typing a page in around 4 minutes. If you are listening back once to avoid omissions or mistakes, this page would take about 8 minutes. One page every 8 minutes is 7 pages per hour - that means you would earn $7 in most cases, less than half the minimum wage. You would have to type at 160 wpm constantly to earn minimum wage, humanly impossible - beware! Also, if you're working from home, you get NO BENEFITS whatsoever and are allocated more difficult work, as it's cheaper for Edecree - a two-tier system. 7. There are no bonuses, no positive communication and no thanks, no matter how hard you work or how many extra hours you do outside your contract or jobs you take on at short notice. The one person who used to provide a positive influence has left the company due to stress and all of the things above. 8. The physical strain of constantly chasing arbitrary, unfair and unattainable targets results in extreme physical discomfort in the hands, legs and back, and can easily result in more serious conditions such as RSI, carpal tunnel syndrome and even DVT. Employees are crammed together on old and inefficient equipment. Even with headphones on, you can see and hear other typists' work. There are one or two 'reviewers' (paid more money to check typists' work) who are helpful, but they are similarly under duress to meet unrealistic deadlines. It would be cheap for the company to install plastic screens for some measure of health, safety and privacy, but they have no intention of doing so. Equipment often breaks, chairs are unadjustable, worn, cracked and dirty. Management seem not to care and seem to do very little work, going out for long lunches, gossiping and chatting while their employees are working furiously with no breaks. 9. IT equipment often fails, and I've seen people wasting 2-3 hours of their four hour shift waiting for it to be fixed and being fired for not reaching targets shortly afterwards, or leaving out of frustration. 10. To summarise, expect absolutely no thanks or human resource management, no acknowledgement of extra or unsocial hours worked, appalling communication which is downright rude, condescending and does not even contain the bare necessities of politeness. Not surprisingly, there is a very high turnover, entirely due to a deliberate lack of planning and prioritising, treating their employees as numbers rather than people.

Pros

Great coworkers, bonded over stress in the workplace.

Cons

After being put into the administrative assistant position the work culture became very toxic. The CEO is understanding and easy to have a conversation with, but her management needs be re-evaluated. Please hire someone with real experience and credentials to run your business. I expressed my concerns about my work loads (meant for 2+ people) and stress on multiple occasions and was dismissed each time. When it became overly stressful, I started making mistakes due to unrealistic deadlines and lack of communication. After that conversation, I was given my final warning regarding my position. When I stood up for myself, management was passive aggressive towards me, made inappropriate comments to me in front of several other coworkers who would message me on the company chat telling me that management is bringing tension to the workplace & making it an uncomfortable environment. This place is a revolving door. Those who are still working there are only working for a paycheque until they find something more stable and sane. Work space is absurd. Small desk, foot pedals falling apart, broken headphones, employees with sore wrists, neck, backs & aren’t able to communicate with anyone due to lack of communication and no formal HR. Breaks are unheard of other than your 30 min unpaid lunch. I was expected to take 5 minute breaks every hour and half, and if I took longer, management said they were watching me, even though I stayed 20 minutes to an hour after every one of my shifts. Expect management to delegate their own tasks to you while they sit in their office on their phones, take 1 hour + breaks, go on walks to get stuff to eat, when they could be practicing what they preach about working together as a “team” to get things done. Management would passively aggressively harass me about getting things out “on time” then go back to her office to do nothing, chat with other employees etc. My breaks were only “tolerated” when I was taking them with management. However, those concerns never got brought up in meetings about my performance. Management does not know how to separate themselves and remain professional from those who are not management. This concern has been spoken to me by so many of my former coworkers. Salary is off the table, expect to make $15-$18. Overall, pay equivalent to a fast food position, except more work. I worked there for almost a year, stayed late, got many things out on time, helped other employees while doing my own job and I never got a thank you or any sort of recognition from the CEO or management. I was very confused when management was confused when I quit. If an employee is telling you they are stressed multiple times a week, making mistakes in their work due to over increased workload, you don’t ADD more on to them.

We are an administrative services company that does transcription (listen to audios and turn them into written transcripts) for the legal and insurance sectors. This means that there isn’t much social interaction outside of the break times, as it is disruptive to everyone else in the work area if staff is engaged in verbal conversation. We have staff that have been with us for over 10 years and find that this work environment fits perfectly with their personality. We also have students that work for us all through their university period, sometimes for four to six years at a stretch, switching schedules every four months depending on their school schedules, because we are flexible in terms of working with their school schedules. However, we have also had people work with us for very short stretches of anywhere from two weeks to six months, where they find that such a structured and quiet work environment is not for them. They require ongoing social interaction to keep them engaged, and find our office environment challenging to work in. We have very clear expectations regarding staff breaks. Staff are able to take as long as they want for their unpaid lunch break as we realize some staff might have errands/personal appointments they would like to handle during that break. In addition, a total of 15 minutes of paid breaks are covered during an eight hour period. All production staff, including transcriptionists, are paid hourly, and paid for their entire workday, even if they work beyond their eight hours if needed, for any reason. This is managed using a time tracking system that staff are expected to track their time through. We have always provided staff with the ability to take personal time to manage other commitments or health issues, sometimes for two to three months, depending on their circumstances. However, we do expect that when they are at work, they are meeting the expectations of their role. Every role has very clearly defined expectations, and if staff isn’t able to manage their time to meet expectations, they are provided tools and training to help them with managing their time effectively. This is the same as any other work environment where you have job expectations and a ramp-up time by which you are expected to meet those expectations.

Pros

-Friendly coworkers -Remote and on site options -Good work location with free parking provided -Pizza day once a week -Easy to talk to trainers if you need any help -Interesting police bodycam footages, interviews, etc -if you like working alone then you will like this job.

Cons

They overwork you like hell. You need to be able to type atleast 20-25 pages every hour or they will consistently criticize you about it. Most footages are hard to understand and/or transcribe. Most of them are boring as hell too so you will probably be dozing off after the first 4 hours of work (its a 9-5). You get your own desk, but if youre part time, its shared by like one or two other people, so you need to clear everything out when you leave and put it all back everytime you come to work. Some people leave food crumbs and stains all over and its disgusting af. Their equipments (keyboard, pc, monitor, mouse, headsets) are all outdated and the chairs and desk are absolute garbage. (I used to get a ear rash from their broken, musty headphones everytime i go to work). I reccomand NOT working here if you care for your mental AND physical well being. Also shoutout to managment. Shes literally a passive aggressive freak that will bother you nonestop about your production speed. (25 pgs an hr is crazy btw). Youre also not allowed to talk to ANYONE at work unless your on your 30 minute lunch break. Its literally 7.5hrs of jail. So unless you want carpal tunnel and trauma for 18$, its really not worth it.
