Management, and senior leadership are inept and there is a LOT of infighting and backstabbing. Teams are often pitted against each other to produce the same products, and the best is used. This is always behind each teams back and one is unaware that the other is duplicating their work.
I've seen senior managers in meetings have full blown arguments bordering on violence & with no shortage of F-bombs, personal insults, and swearing.
The senior leadership are bipolar at best. It's a Machiavellian environment - they often contradict themselves, pursue agendas in secret (see above) and blatantly blame the engineers & feature teams for failures which are clearly attributable to themselves. They are so out of touch with the team structures that they often don't know how many people are on a team (it's not that big of a company, these are things they should know).
There is no communication from the top down, and then respond with incredulity when objectives are not met because of "lack of communication".
"Monthly" all-hands meetings occur at 6-month intervals - and are often a point & blame exercise.
Threatening to fire individuals that don't adhere to the company's vague and non-specific goals is a new feature of their fire & brimstone approach to management.
They make the Trump Administration look vaguely capable.
