Pros

Free health insurance, free bus pass or parking, partial 401k match available after 90 days, complimentary food (deli meats, snacks, drinks, order from a restaurant on Fridays)

Cons

High turnover rate: all full-time employees hired while I was there ended up fired, one who moved from the east coast within 3 weeks. Promises of growth were actually met with contraction. CEO: The CEO, Kenji, is an archetypal arrogant controlling micromanager. Projects/tasks switched base quickly at his whim and the end results were always just to appease him. Lack of oversight on Kenji and his significant majority ownership combine to make him the dictator of Spoon. I'm convinced that growing the company is not even the goal. During my time, Kenji seemed content with his status and wealth, and satisfied to have bought himself a posse of employees who fear being fired so much that they'll do whatever he wants, including pretend to be his friend at "company" BBQs and other events/trips and then talk with other employees behind his back about how awful he is. Enviroment: All male, predominately white and minority asian-american, workforce. No set hours, some people worked from home on some days, others were required to come in. Some people were obliged to come in on weekends while others weren't. This was an environment where I was afraid to ask questions about nonexistent company policies or tell coworkers and management about my ideas for fear they would not align and I would be fired. Customers seemed to feel the same uneasiness as Kenji's dismissive "you're stupid, you don't know what you're talking about" attitude dominated meetings where he talked over them. You do not want to work here. Let's hear it from other former employees, I know there are lots more of us

Pros

Friday lunches and free snacks. Some coworkers were great colleagues and good connections for future career development.

Cons

Micromanaging CEO and upper management. Nonexistent HR (outsourced.) Extreme favoritism and unequal application of so-called "benefits" (e.g. only the CEO's friends got to go on frequent company-sponsored trips, flexible work situation only applied to certain staff for reasons unrelated to their position.) Terrible work-life balance. Little regard for customer satisfaction. Product is a great concept but is poorly implemented and was almost embarrassing to sell.
