Pros

Gained solid customer service and problem-solving experience Work remote

Cons

• No clear or honest path for advancement despite multiple years of strong performance • Repeatedly told opportunities were coming, then given “interviews” that went nowhere • Advancement process feels performative rather than genuine • Constantly changing requirements made bonuses harder to achieve, even as a top performer • Poor communication and lack of transparency about company direction • Frequent layoffs created ongoing anxiety and instability • Benefits were reduced or removed over time, including DoorDash credits that were part of the original compensation package • Team culture heavily centered around alcohol-based social outings • I was explicitly told that attending these bar outings would improve my advancement opportunities, which felt exclusionary for employees who do not drink or are unable to attend The company had a DEI group, does not meaningfully address hiring, representation, or retention • Despite DEI initiatives, the company remained overwhelmingly white, with very little diversity across teams • DEI efforts focused more on social activities (e.g., group outings) than on structural change

Pros

Collaborative, fun, and talented teammates across departments. Lots of ways to make a positive impact without a ton of red tape. Big focus on praise and bonding activities. You really feel like you know everyone and are working closely with your teammates even though most everyone is remote. The people managers do a good job at remote team management. The office is a relaxed place when you can bring your dog.

Cons

Some long-tenured employees with little experience working or implementing industry best-practices create congestion and keep the company stagnant. Together with some pretty old code, it's hard to understand why more progress has not been made in the company's innovation after almost 20 years of business. Very little to no potential for growth and less than competitive salaries. A bit clickish so that only certain well-connected people do get promoted. Others, who carry huge loads of work get very little recognition to they point they end up leaving and taking all the history with them.

Pros

Great benefits when I started, which sharply declined as the company has continued to hemorrhage cash. The meal program was shifted from in-person chef prepared meals to Doordash credits, and events went from huge productions to a zoom meeting. People who have made it through the many layoffs are basically stuck there because they've gotten raises to keep them in their seats, so pay is decent for many. There is some hope in a new CEO, but most believe the damage has been done. He will be limited in what he can accomplish while dragging the dead weight of the Product lead. Tech debt has been a consistent issue which they are only addressing in the company's 21st year in business.

Cons

The Board promoted an unqualified "intern turned CEO" seemingly based on tenure who was more focused on self-promotion (paid for by the business) than leading, and her 18 months at the helm destroyed the company before she was finally removed. She immediately fired other executives, one of whom was in active cancer treatment, and ostracized anyone who questioned her. Product has no direction under another problematic leader and there are newer companies doing the same thing way better. Rolling layoffs and budget cuts have turned the office into a graveyard with zero events or perks, and morale could not be lower. The lights are barely on. On the Engineering side, they brought in a new CTO who fired, made redundant, or ran-off virtually all of senior engineering who carried the bulk of the company's domain knowledge. Operationally, they have now downsized even further so 1 person is running all of HR. This HR leader was also present for the questionable firings during the previous CEO's tenure, and never spoke up, so they have completely lost the trust of employees.
