Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose unwavering commitment to justice and equality continues to inspire us. As Dr. King said, “There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right.” At BNSF, we strive to embody these values by fostering a culture of inclusion and understanding. Through our Black Organization for Leadership Development (BOLD), we empower employees with mentorship, professional growth opportunities and meaningful community outreach. Together, we’re building the bridges of unity and understanding that Dr. King envisioned.
Heavy snowfall is common in the northern half of our network, but BNSF employees are ready to keep the trains running. ❄️ Thanks to the rotary snowplow, invented in the 19th century, we can safely clear snow from our tracks. So, who exactly invented this machine? A dentist! Read all about the origins and evolution on Rail Talk: https://bit.ly/4fWZ2i3

We’re happy to *dwell* on the month of November, thanks to some record achievements by our operations teams! Dwell: The measurement of a car’s arrival time to departure time within a rail terminal. Last month marked our fifth lowest dwell month ever, which was the best month for overall system dwell since May 2020. Our team’s efforts at its merchandise terminals led to several notable achievements, including, but not limited to: - All-time monthly dwell record for system’s entire north region (encompasses the Montana, Northwest, Twin Cities, Heartland and Powder River Divisions) - Overall hump yard dwell record, beating previous record in September of this year - Monthly dwell records set in Barstow, California; Lincoln, Nebraska; Galesburg, Illinois; and Pasco, Washington Congrats to all involved in this collective focus to strengthen service across our network, while doing so safely.
