This week, we celebrate the Engineers of Naperville. We are proud of their contributions to our growth and success, making Naperville a great place to live, work, and play. We are so proud of our amazing staff, who spread a little cheer last week by taking about 60 local children shopping during the annual Shop with a Cop event. Naperville Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 42 gave each child a gift card and then NPD staff members (including officers, detectives, dispatchers, social workers and supervisors) assisted the kids in picking out gifts for themselves and their families. Last week, our award-winning fleet team had the privilege of hosting Naperville North High School students at our Public Works Service Center. The students had the opportunity to explore fleet management, learn about career paths, ASE/EVT certifications, technology, and the importance of safety and cleanliness. By sharing their knowledge and experiences, our team is helping to inspire and guide the next generation of fleet technicians. Congratulations to NPD Officers Allison Simko (left), Courtney Duffy (center) and Mark Schumacher (right), who received the Award of Valor from the Hundred Club of DuPage County earlier this month! They were awarded for their quick and selfless actions, entering a frigid retention pond in early January 2024 to help two adults and a baby escape their vehicle, which was partially submerged in the water. Per the Hundred Club: The Award of Valor represents an outstanding act of bravery or heroism which is undertaken in the face of personal injury or risk to life, and which displays the personal characteristics of selflessness and devotion above and beyond the call of duty. Congratulations, Officers, on this well-deserved recognition of your selflessness and heroism.
Two of our Emergency Communications Center employees were recognized by Illinois APCO at the Illinois Public Safety Telecommunications Association conference in Springfield earlier this week. Telecommunicator Tracy Eisemon (left) was named Telecommunicator of the Year & Emergency Communications Manager Jillianne Chuffo (right) was awarded Director of the Year! Congratulations to both on this statewide recognition and thank you for your hard work on Naperville's behalf!
Last Friday, the City of Naperville, along with 109 other local businesses, supported Naperville Community Unit School District 203's Career Motive-8 event. Motive-8 offers a fun and safe environment where students can learn about careers from a diverse set of industries. Over 1,200 eighth grade students attended from all five junior high schools in the district. The City’s Electric, Water, Public Works, Sustainability, Police and Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) teams engaged the students in demonstrations and talked about their respective careers. What a great experience!
