March is Women’s History Month and we’re celebrating the theme “Choose to Challenge,” a message of solidarity and allyship. It identifies how every one of us can take part in challenging norms, stereotypes, and bias. We chatted with Womens@ co-DRIs Chantal Salazar and Tessa Chen about this month’s theme and what they’re choosing to challenge.
We’re encouraging Dropboxers to do good! We just launched our first-ever Impact Day—a designated day of service each quarter for Dropbox employees across all our global offices to give back. Read to learn how we curated opportunities that aligned with supporting Black History Month and Women’s History Month, the first two heritage months we celebrated at work so far this year.
The International Women’s Day theme this year “Choose to Challenge” serves as a call-to-action for calling out gender bias and inequality. FairyGodBoss interviewed some of their partners, including Dropbox, to share how they’re promoting an environment that champions gender equality and supports their women employees not just on IWD but every day!
In honor of International Women’s Day, we asked some of our Dropboxers how they #ChooseToChallenge this year. Caroline said, “I choose to challenge my own community engagement. In my hometown of Healdsburg, Ca (that’s driven by the hospitality industry in Sonoma County), it’s been top of mind for me to help amplify stories and silver linings on how businesses are doing and navigating COVID-19.”
In honor of International Women’s Day, we asked some of our Dropboxers how they #ChooseToChallenge this year. Jennifer said, “As an EM, I actively engage in ensuring our women and URMs in Engineering have representation and challenge in all areas where I don’t see growth. I am currently focused on that these groups are represented as decision makers in hiring committees and other areas where important decisions are made.”
Addressing gender equality is about much more than just elevating women. It takes all of us working together—asking questions and using our voices—to make impactful changes. We want to say thank you to the women who have chosen to challenge outdated expectations and norms and have helped us make significant strides over the years. Though there is still more work to do, we’re glad to have you on this journey with us. As a reflection of our constant drive for change, the theme of this year’s Women’s History Month is Choose to Challenge, chosen by our Women@ employee resource group and in conjunction with this year’s International Women’s Day theme. Our artwork was designed using an ambiguous geometric illustration style to depict different ways to challenge inequalities. This style challenges norms and stereotypes by being open to interpretation, just as we must think outside the (Drop)box to challenge gender bias, harmful and inequitable norms and welcome full understanding and equity. From challenge comes change! #LifeInsideDropbox #WomensHistoryMonth #WHM
For the 5th year in a row, we are proud to announce that we scored a 100 on the 2021 Corporate Equality Index for 2021 Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality! Thank you to our Dropboxers for making Dropbox such a great place to work for everyone.
We’re proud to announce that Dropbox has been recognized by Great Place to Work on six of their ‘Best Workplaces’ lists in 2020. There are so many aspects to what makes Dropbox what it is, but we know the secret ingredient has always been our people-- because you can’t have a great place to work without great people to work with. Thanks to our Dropboxers for making Dropbox a great place to work each and every day.
Dropbox is now a Virtual First company! Now, you may be wondering, how will this affect our day-to-day? Culture and community are such a huge part of what makes working at Dropbox special, and while going virtual will bring changes, we have big plans in place to keep the magic that makes Dropbox what it is alive and thriving. To help guide our employees during this transition, we’ve created a Virtual First toolkit! We know this will be an evolving document, and we recognize we don’t have all the answers right now, but we are so excited for the road ahead. Take a look behind the scenes of how we’re moving towards our Virtual First future.
With climate scientists widely in agreement that global greenhouse gas emissions must be decreased by at least 50% by 2030 to limit global warming to below 1.5 degrees Celsius and avoid the worst impacts of climate change, Dropbox is committed to fighting global warming and reducing our carbon footprint. We recently announced the goals that we plan to accomplish before 2030.
