We're proud to invest in the University of Texas at El Paso’s (UTEP) effort to restart the state’s only mining engineering degree program – an essential step toward training the next generation of mining engineers who will help drive innovation, infrastructure and the global energy transition. Our longstanding partnership with UTEP has brought many talented graduates into our global operations. This new investment strengthens that relationship and helps prepare future mining professionals to lead the way in responsibly delivering the critical metals our world relies on.
We are excited to announce Freeport is collaborating with Caterpillar to test the new fully battery electric 793 XE Early Learner haul truck at our Sierrita, Ariz. site. As part of an Early Learner program, Freeport will evaluate the truck’s performance in real-world mining conditions. Jason Bowsher, our Life Cycle and Decarbonization Manager, stated, "This test is more than just a real-world trial run; it provides Freeport with a true voice of customer experience." With a focus on innovative charging solutions and a goal of net zero emissions by 2050, we're collaborating to push the boundaries of what's possible in mining technology.

This Earth Day, we’re celebrating progress with purpose. At Freeport, we're committed to supporting the global energy transition by supplying responsibly produced copper. Through water conservation, land reclamation and our climate and biodiversity programs, we’re working to reduce our environmental impact while powering the technologies of tomorrow. For example, our molybdenum smelter in Stowmarket, England now features 5 acres of solar panels, supplying up to 70% of the site’s energy with the help of advanced battery storage. The project also restores local ecosystems, replacing invasive vegetation with native habitat to support reptiles and plant life. #EarthDay #WeAreFreeportMcMoRan #responsibleproduction

Freeport’s Minera El Abra is helping bring the flavors of the Chilean Andes to your table. Partnering with the Ollagüe Indigenous Tourism Association, El Abra created “Cocinando en las Alturas,” which means Cooking in the Highlands. It incorporates culinary traditions while also promoting sustainable tourism in the area. The cookbook is part of an initiative supported by El Abra’s Heritage Fund, dedicated to safeguarding the cultural heritage of the Antofagasta region. Congratulations to our Bagdad team for successfully launching the first seven autonomous haul trucks into round-the-clock production! This milestone is the result of over 18 months of meticulous planning, construction and training. By the end of the year, we anticipate the entire fleet of 33 trucks will be operating autonomously.
