Nova's Employee Conference in Australia has been part of the culture since the company began more than two decades ago. Things look a little different now with 700+ people! Over three days in Brisbane last week we: ⭐ heard from our leaders including CEO Dean Rosenfield and Chief People Officer Shelley Willsmore (nee Mearns), as well as guest speakers Andrew Bottrell and Dr Richard Harris, ⭐ learned from subject matter experts across the organisation, ⭐ celebrated our Directors Awards finalists and winners, ⭐ took over Southbank for an epic team building activity. We're smart people, who don't take themselves too seriously, so we also had a roaring good time at our 1920s themed Gala Dinner. With offices around the Australia and New Zealand, plus our people often solving challenges for our clients on sites, it's important to Nova to bring everyone together to connect and align on the company goals. Thanks to JP Media (Australia) for helping us pull off this mammoth event, Banana Life for the team building, all of those who delivered sessions or helped out, especially to our Corporate Affairs team Dana Cole and Brittany Harmer.
International Women’s Day is an opportunity to highlight the achievements and contributions of women, but also importantly the challenges faced by women in our industry. Women play an invaluable role in shaping our organisation and broader community. We are committed to creating a more inclusive and equitable workplace where every individual, regardless of gender, feels valued, respected and empowered to thrive. Let's celebrate the achievements of women, advocate for gender equality, and continue working together to create more inclusive workplaces and a more inclusive industry for all.
🗣️ “The biggest barrier to young women and girls to have a career in our industry is the small number of role models. If you can’t see it, you can’t be it." - Lee Kormany, Executive General Manager - Business Operations. Over the coming weeks and months, we'll be shining a spotlight on the career journeys of some of our incredible Novans. We hope to bring visibility of those who could inspire more women and people from diverse backgrounds into a career in Aerospace, Engineering or Technology. "I joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1994, and concluded my career in the Military after 21 years’ full-time service in July 2015, joining Nova Systems in August 2015 as an Engineering Consultant," Lee explains. "Nova is a company that appreciated the skills I had gained over a 21 year defence career and allowed me to continue to contribute to the security of Australia and our allies. "The biggest barrier to young women and girls to have a career in our industry is the small number of role models. This means that young girls and women don’t consider this is a career for them as they can’t see anyone who looks like them doing it. "It is great to see more girls entering engineering at university and our graduate program has strong representation of women, but seeing more representation of women in all levels of leadership and roles is so important.”
