Pete Finken, Nicollet Firefighter and Semi Driver for POET Last year, Finken did the math and determined that 15 and one-third trips up the 143 stairs to the catwalk 107 feet above the ground at POET Bioprocessing – Lake Crystal, MN, would be the equivalent of the 110 stories of the two towers at the World Trade Center. On September 11, 2023, in an act of remembrance, he put on his gear and trudged up the steps alone. This year, on the 23rd anniversary of 9/11, Finken led five other small-town firefighters to the top of the corrugated steel bins of the plant — all fifteen and one-third trips.
