How do employees feel about their professional development opportunities at FedEx?

      FedEx reviews

      Overworked, Overwhelmed, and Underpaid

      Courier team lead
      Former employee
      Houston, TX
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Weekly pay, Sundays off (FedEx Express)

      Cons

Underpaid, considering their top competitor’s pay… poor organization… lack of structure and communication, unless you’re being reprimanded… no work- life balance, just all work… they give you a schedule frame upon hire (ex: Route 123, Mon- Fri 8a-5p) but there is only a scheduled time to come in and work until load is complete, no matter the time. If they don’t have enough Tues-Sat employees, they start to draft Mon-Fri employees involuntarily. If you refuse, they do underhanded things like cut your hours. Extremely hot and cold weather conditions. Managers only look out for their individual work groups, instead of pushing collaborative company teamwork. Micromanagement is unbearable, through installed vehicle cameras monitoring your every move, immediately sending video notification to management if you “blink” wrong. The company stresses no cell phones while on road, when it’s the only source of GPS, as well as management calling and texting your personal phone throughout the day while on road. Management will overwhelm you with meeting 3-4 different commit times, despite mishaps on the company’s part. If they don’t enough bodies to cover all routes, management divides the load with the loop, with no consideration to your life or plans outside of work. They don’t ask, they tell you. And sometimes your load is so heavy, you have to work though your lunch, yet still put it in the system as if one was taken. If you don’t, you get written up and possibly terminated. If you’re looking to advance, it can be done but many have left due to stagnation. Some managers will give you a “Team Lead” title but only use you to do tasks they don’t want to bother with, so you become stuck. You still have to run a full route on top of taking on leadership responsibilities. So it’s early mornings and late nights. Oh yeah, you don’t get paid for extra training hours put in and you don’t get a raise for moving up to Lead.

      Pros

Large company with a lot of opportunity for professional growth through promotion and/or job switching to build new skills.

      Cons

Pay ranges can vary internally - for the same type of job role - depending on which individual operating company it is in.

      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Some lovely co-workers at the job, some coverage of college tuition

      Cons

Training is a joke nearly was crushed, doesn't keep track of staff on site, you're overworked in a hot/cold environment (hit 110f in the warehouse a few times), constant overtime

      Pros

I am 4 credits short of graduation and all classes have been paid by Fedex. all sick days even if covered by sick pay is a mark against you

      Cons

      Pros

none, seriously, apply for something else.

      Cons

Bad management, Training is insufficient, hours frequently cut even when you're by law expected to receive 30-32 as a full time employee, expectation to learn and work every at facet of the store doesn't match their own commitment to you as far as hours and pay. Have to say things that are unnatural in regular conversations.

      Project Management

      Operations research analyst
      Current employee
      Memphis, TN
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

FedEx gives the opportunity to explore and grow and earn new skills

      Cons

The process that a project goes through is not clear and sometimes goes directly to dead-end because of the lack of protocols to bring a project to results

      FedEx package handler

      Fed ex ground package handler
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

The people were really nice. You also get paid for orientation and training. The pay was also nice. ($16)

      Cons

It’s in a warehouse, so at the time it was below freezing. They also don’t tell you to get gloves, which they definitely should have because you’re going to be touching a lot of dirty packages. One last thing, if you’re short…Jobs not for you. You’ll be filling 18 wheelers up from the bottom to the top with boxes. By your lonesome.

      Laughable

      Customs trade coordinator
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Work from home…for now at least.

      Cons

The pay is literally minimum wage for a job that requires SO much technical knowledge and months of training. The expectations are actually insane considering it’s a minimum wage/GED/no experience necessary job.
