The interview started off fairly well - they introduced the company, talked a bit about the product and their processes. Then they asked about my experience, and I began describing my latest project, where I directly communicate with the client (a representative of the company whose app I’m developing).
About ten minutes in, I was interrupted and told that I “wouldn’t fit in with the team” and that they “need someone with direct experience working with a product manager.” However, they didn’t ask me what kinds of teams I’ve worked in before, nor about my previous experience in larger companies where the management structure was actually similar to what they described.
It felt like they expected me to describe my experience as an exact match to their internal processes within the first few minutes, and if you don’t perfectly align with that expectation right away, they simply end the interview on the spot.
This approach makes the process feel closed-off and unprofessional - instead of having a real conversation and evaluating the candidate’s full experience, the decision seems to be based on first impressions only.
