I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Airwallex (Singapore) in Aug 2024
Interview
I applied through recruiter for the Senior Software Engineer role, the process took more than 4 weeks because they have internal issue "changes in recruitment process". I need to keep following up to the HR and finally after 3 weeks they scheduled my interview with the Core Banking team.
The 1st interview ran smoothly, tell your story, the most interesting and challenging project for you, and the tech stack that you use.
The 2nd interview was a technical interview with the principal engineer, he asked about real-world cases in the banking system like how you make sure all the balances in the bank accounts are more than 100 for each bank at the end of the day. That was quite easy but you need to pay attention to edge cases, clean codes, and scenario testing. Don't forget to clarify the problem first before starting.
The 3rd interview was a system design, the HR team gave you feedbacks and website for you to practice about system design. The interviewer asked me to design a "Google docs comment feature". I followed all the steps from the recommended website, try to speak loud and clear, also clarify all the requirements from the interviewer. I thought that was easy and the interviewer looks happy with what I did.
After 4 days, they gave me a thank you letter (maybe from a bot) without clear feedback from the system design interview. Also, they asked me to keep an eye to Airwallex careers page to see another opportunity that I am interested in. I replied with several job openings and they said I am on 6 months cooling-off period. :'(
Thank you Airwallex and team.
Interview questions [2]
Question 1
Explain about your most interesting project and tech stack you used!
First Interviewer cancelled on me twice. Third time was the charm.
Interviewed me for 20 minutes despite it being a senior role. Did not ask me a thing about my experience at all. Just gave a leetcode-style simulation question which was quite easy. Did not ask follow-ups even though we had time left and I deliberately took pains to keep my code flexible and extendable. Asked me to email him my (correct) answer and hung up within 25 minutes tops. Received rejection on the grounds that "other candidates were better".
Got shunted into a different role by the recruiter. Interviewer again cancelled twice - once on the morning of, and once AFTER I was already in the Zoom and waiting.
Voluntarily dropped out at that point

Interview
Overall it was a smooth interview process, The HR response time is fairly quick when providing interview results and scheduling the subsequent ones. Interviewers I have met are friendly and competent, although seems to be team dependent.
