I applied through university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at American Airlines (Fort Worth, TX) in May 2011
Interview
Hiring procedure for the first time IT job at American Airlines is not the exemplary model in the IT industries. Although getting better, there does not seem to be a group dedicated and focused to only the hiring process. Rather, the hiring process for the new IT employees is not so uniform. Interview questions are prepared only within a month ahead of the interview date, and this results in the inconsistent interview standards from year to year when the company tries to hire the new employees. Some interview questions created by the employees are not thoroughly looked over and reviewed, so it often happens that the candidates have to deal with ambiguous interview questions. The opponents in support of the process may defend the process by claiming "it is based on a trust-system between capable employees who are developing the questions," but that perspective is only ideal and only works well if everyone involved in the process is capable and 100% dedicated to make the interview process better.
