Interview lasted over 4 hours with 8-9 people all asking me more or less the exact same questions. Some very invasive personal questions were asked about my family and whether I am planning to get married, but I chalk this up to an innocent culture difference. Still quite awkward. Interviewers were mostly quite polite, with the exception of the CEO who interviewed me last. He made me wait over half an hour in a conference room, and then only asked me a handful of questions, most of which were in my opinion not relevant to the job or not indicative of my abilities. Despite the majority of the interviewers explicitly telling me they were impressed with my qualifications, I never received a call back, presumably because the CEO did not like my undergraduate GPA (I graduated years ago) or the fact that I lack experience in PLC, which was not on the job description.
The job description was another problem. The position was for a mechanical engineer, however the description has far more to do with Manufacturing or Process Engineering. The description and phone screen made it sound as if design is a large portion of the workload, however during the in-person interview it was clear that there was little design work to do, and that the duties would be mostly the installation, qualification, and maintenance of industrial machinery. It sounded to me ask if they have had problems recruiting and retaining mechanical engineers because of the nature of the work.
We never reached pay negotiations, but it was strongly hinted to me during the interview that pay was low and that the company offers stock. Personally I was not fond of this, but understand that it may be enticing to others.
Th environment there seemed tense. I heard people speaking very harshly to each other in another room while I was waiting for the first interviewer to talk to me. Personally I am rather relieved they did not make me an offer, even though I believe I was qualified.
