I have never experience such an unprofessional interview process in my life. I was contacted on a Sunday by a recruiter from AvalonBay by email asking if I had time to talk the following week. Sure, I said I was open all week and asked what time worked best for the interviewer. No response. So I followed up on Thursday to reiterate my interest. He sent me a one liner asking me to call the next day at 10:30. "Sure", I replied "is it better to call your desk or cell number? No response. At exactly 10:30 on Friday, I called both the desk and cell phone only to get a voicemail. Three hours later, I got a terse voicemail asking me to call him back. So I did. He told me to call back in 5 mins. Ok, sure. I called back. He asked ONE question about my experience with something very specific that was not listed on the job description. I said I did not have that specific experience, but I work in the employee benefits field and am confident that I can pick it up quickly. "Well" he said "it's not going to be a good fit" and hung up! I have never felt so disrespected. What an unprofessional way to conduct business, I will never apply for anything in this company ever again! I do a fair amount of recruiting at my own company, and I cannot even imagine treating a job applicant like that, ever!
