      Communications Role Interview

      25 Feb 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Eastleigh, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at B&Q (Eastleigh, England) in Dec 2015

      Interview

I applied online, and was contacted for a telephone interview by email. After less than 24 hours, and before I had a chance to reply, I was contacted again to ask if I was still interested in the role. I did a 30 minute phone call with recruitment manager, and then went in for a face-to-face second interview to meet the hiring manager. This all happened quickly, and efficiently, over the space of a few weeks. After coming in to the Eastleigh office for the interview, I was told not to worry if I didn’t hear anything for a while, as they were seeing other people, and it fell over the Christmas break. All fine, and absolutely standard, except I never heard from them again… A month later, I emailed the recruitment manager to ask what was happening with the role, but this email wasn’t responded to. Six weeks after my face to face-to-face interview, and still no response from B&Q (not even a thanks, but no thanks email), I emailed the hiring manager to ask about the role. I was told I would be hearing from the recruitment team shortly. That was a month ago and I’ve yet to receive a response from them. I appreciate they are a large company, and their recruitment team are probably stretched. However, after a candidate has got to that stage in an interview process, I think it’s pretty basic courtesy to respond with an email, or brief call. I feel the lack of response is a very poor way to treat candidates, and ultimately reflects badly on B&Q’s brand as an employer.
