      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at BASF in July 2022

      Interview

Microsoft teams meeting with 3 men, various management positions. I was the only one on video for some reason. Unstructured interview, open stage for conversation and honesty, the conversation was steered by my responses. The entire interview seemed negative and condescending. Started out with "here's a description of the job, the shift is rotating 12s, did anyone make you aware of that? Uhm okay, have you worked rotating shifts before? No? Idk if you can handle that, most people can't." The company i currently work for is R&D, the response was "okay you know this isn't a research job right?" Like yes, I read the job description and that's how we started the interview.. Throughout the interview it seemed like they were pressing me for reasons why I'm not capable of holding the job, asking me to disprove them. Extremely concerned about why I left each job listed on my resume (offered position in my field, relocation) like they were seeking a 'valid' reason. Didnt ask me literally anything about my experience with wet chemistry or QC. One quote was "i have no doubts youre capable of the job duties, you clearly have the experience and education, I just don't know if youll be able to handle working alone for 12 hours rotating shift". I assured them I'd be able to handle it, I've worked varied schedules before, alone, I'm not one to bail on a company, ect, and it was dismissed from skepticism. Another quote was "the only option I have is to trust someone when they promise not to quit, that's all i have to go off of" and yet, despite my commitment, decided not to trust me because I haven't worked 12s. I get having high turn around, but if someone is saying 'yes, i am capable and willing to do the job' why is that insufficient? They "decided to pass because they felt like I wanted a R&D job" . If I didnt want this job, why would I have applied.. I get weeding out candidates that arent a good fit, but it seemed like they had already made a presumptive decision, and there was nothing I could have said to change their minds and nothing I said mattered. They want someone who is willing to work there for the rest of their life, "no opportunity for advancement". This is a great job for you if you've worked rotating 12s, have wet chem experience, and this is the highest aspiration you have (:
