    Pros

It is a strong company, world leader in the chemical industry and with lots of internal opportunities. Great organisation overall.

The structure is quite rigid, changes are slow and decision-making process is sometimes limited. All the cons related to a company of that size.

I worked at BASF full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Large, diverse company means opportunities to move around, if desired
    Financially resilient
    Some nice, intelligent colleagues
Strong culture of health and safety

    Cons

    Excessive bureaucracy
Matrix management means no one seems to take responsibility
Centralized decision making means local businesses have limited authority
Claims to be customer focused but is not, especially with respect to supply
New performance appraisal process too vulnerable to subjective opinion
Insufficient transparency to local business managers of profitability

    Advice to Management

Empower and support your staff to be more entrepreneurial
R&D must launch new products to compensate for maturing commodities
Eliminate the regional hubs = massive cost savings
Supply lead times are excessive - consider alternative sourcing
More attention to culture and business models after acquisitions

I have been working at BASF full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

International, dynamic, good processes, good company culture

    Cons

Very very low salaries, no good allocation of internal talent

    Advice to Management

There are many positive things about management such as empowerment of employees, but there is an obvious issue: salaries are so low that you cannot retain talent and you waste resources on forming new people over and over again.
