Applied for position via bennington.edu; was promptly contacted for a preliminary video interview. Video interview lasted approximately 30-45 minutes. Questions ranged from why Bennington, why this position, how my previous work experience connected to this role, and what my philosophy was around engaging students through admissions.
I thought the interview had went well; was given the hiring time frame and they indicated they'd like to move quickly & bring candidates to campus within the next couple weeks. I followed up with my post-interview thank you email. After a week or so, I followed up with another message inquiring about an update on my status. I was told:
"At this point I can't give you any formal updates - we're still in the interview process and you're still one of the candidates under consideration. We'll update you as soon as we can."
This was June 23rd -- and after two more weeks, I figured they must have moved on to another candidate. I didn't receive any further communication about my status.
I later found out they had hired another candidate for the role.
I'm disappointed in the candidate/recruiting experience here, as the beginning stages seemed to be rather positive and I had initially found it to be refreshing. It should be noted that I also didn't interview with the actual hiring manager or the director of the office but with someone whom I'm assuming would have been a peer. It's really a shame, as I was very much thrilled about the institution and despite any trepidation I may have had about its financial future (many New England closures of small liberal arts schools) -- I felt my values certainly aligned with its mission and goals.
