I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Best Buy (Altoona, PA) in Apr 2012
Interview
I currently work for Best Buy as a salesman in the computers department. I applied for a Geek Squad position that I am extremely overqualified for. They did not ask a single question pertaining to my knowledge in the IT field. Every question that was asked was extremely open ended and dry. The positions in the Altoona Best Buy go by how much the managers like you, not how qualified you are for the job or how much you know.
When I first applied, I was asked to submit a video interview first. A few days later, I was called in for an in-person interview. The interview questions were as expected. Some relating to technology but most about yourself and customer service. I applied for the Consultant position so I wasn't expected to know too much about computers.
The first round is a video interview where you record yourself answering 7 questions. The process was easy but you only get one try at recording. The video interview was not strictly based on geek squad it was very generic questions.
Online though a website where a person would show up and ask you a question and you would be given 2 minutes to answer the proposed questions. It wasn't too bad but it was a little on the weird side for the format.
