I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at BetterUp (Remote, OR) in Oct 2018
Interview
I had a phone screen with them. The interviewer was somewhat terse and asked the questions in a blunt, non-conversational way She seemed to be reading off her list, and offered little to no response to the different answers I provided.
There were many typical phone screen questions. I was really interested in the company because they seem genuinely interested in personal growth and having positive human experiences. The person I spoke didn't match my idea of the company in that the way we interacted felt very off-paper and somewhat inauthentic. The general feeling I got from the interviewer was that she was unimpressed by me and was not interested from the beginning of the conversation. I thought the experience would be more genuine based on the kind of work BetterUp does.
We're so sorry to hear that you had a negative experience interviewing with BetterUp. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. We’re taking this feedback and working with the team to improve our process.
Other Account Executive interview reviews for BetterUp
I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at BetterUp (San Francisco, CA)
Interview
I interviewed at BetterUp 2x, for a total of 14 interviews for an account executive role. Both rounds required many hours of preparation.
The first time I did 6 interviews. After the 6th interview I was told I didn't have a necessary skill and I should go get it at another company because BetterUp did not want to train that skill. So I did that.
Several months later, I came back and interviewed again. I was required to do the same 6 interviews. This time I was told after the 6th interview that I did the best job on that skill possibly that the interviewer had ever seen and she gave me a "gold star."
I moved on to the next round, I next met with a VP who also passed me on to a final round. I anticipated the final round would be a "congrats, you made it this far" warm kind of tone, but I could tell from the moment that the interview started that the interviewer did not like my resume or me. I left wondering if this was a psychological tactic to see how I handled someone being cold to me.
I didn't get the role. I was told by the recruiter "It's us not you. Come back again." Apparently a founder was supposed to do the last interview for the first 1000 employees and they weren't available that day, so a different senior leader did the interview. She said they were going to restructure the interview process. After 14 interviews, and 6 months of effort, I won't be trying a 3rd time. For an individual contributor role, this is by far, the most time I have ever spent on an interview process. In the end, I walked away from BetterUp feeling completely turned off and disrespected.

How do you manage your time? A strategy scenario: what would you do? A mock discovery process.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at BetterUp (Chicago, IL) in Oct 2022
Interview
Long complicated and demanding and meandering. Not clear on steps and asked for supporting docs. Seemed to be a formula on questions rather than a conversation. It seemed very canned and long.
