      Customer Service Representative Interview

      28 Oct 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Toronto, ON
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Booking.com (Toronto, ON) in Oct 2018

      Interview

It took about a month from the time I completed the online application to the job offer. The online application consisted of two language tests (because I applied for a bilingual position), and a a few interactive scenarios where you had to pick how to respond to a customer from 3 or 4 multiple choices. You do get a score at the end, for each test and for the interactive game. In the application you are asked about salary expectations and availability but none of this seems to be taken into consideration and they will ask again at every interview, only to offer whatever it is they have available, which is anywhere from 7 am to 12 pm. Tuesday to Saturday, or Sunday to Thursday. I had a few issues with the recruiters, where they didn't seem to read my resume and they gave us the wrong time for the group interview so we had to wait for over an hour. The level of communication was sub-optimal and time was wasted because of this. The initial phone interview was fine, informative and straight forward. Questions about previous experience, and why did I want to work for the company, did not take longer than 15 minutes . They have a cool online tool to have you pick the interview time, but I'm not sure why this tool was not used for the in person interview. The next step was a group interview. That included more language tests in their training room, much like the ones from the online application (English and Second language). A tour of the office after that showed a really nice space, open concept, two massage chairs, 2 or 3 lunchrooms, free fruit, snacks and lunch options to buy, no cubicles and convertible standing desks, two monitors each. Lastly, an interview with a manager at the end. Different managers came to each candidate, so only a few minutes wait. Over all, that took around an hour and a half, 2 hours. The following week, I had a short phone interview with a language evaluator. A few days later I was offered the position.

      Interview

The selection process started with an assessment which is supposed to give a chance to show your practical skills in this particular role. The idea is great but the assessment itself was confusing, there was not enough time to answer all the questions properly and many questions were not even that relevant to the role. If you manage to pass, you move to the interview stage which is the interview with a recruiter. I had a pretty relaxed interview with a lovely recruiter who said I left a positive impression and she will present my candidature to the next stage (which is an interview with the manager). However, at the end of the same day I received a message that they will not be moving forward with my application with no further feedback. A couple of weeks later I saw the role being reposted again.
