      SDR Team Manager Interview

      27 Jan 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 7 months. I interviewed at Canonical

      Interview

Canonical has a very lengthy interview process that covers roughly 4 stages. Stage 1 is a written interview. Stage 2 is personality assessments. Stage 3 consists of 4 individual interviews with 4 different people across Canonical lasting roughly an hour each. Stage 4 is final stage of interviews with 4 people who are more closely aligned to the role including the hiring manager. There is also a video interview where Canonical asks you to prepare and record a presentation and send that over before Stage 4 interviews. What stuck out to me the most is that even though the interviews go well right till the end, Canonical will just ghost you without providing any feedback. I also saw that the job ad disappeared and the candidate profile vanished. I emailed the hiring manager and recruitment lead multiple times but did not get a response. While I enjoyed talking to the interviewers at Canonical, just getting ghosted right at the end, which in many cases is over 6-8 months of interviews is just disappointing. I hope this is noticed by senior management as this is not only disrespectful of people's time, but also leaves a bad taste in terms of what Canonical is trying to achieve.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Canonical in Mar 2024

      Interview

      1. Initial application sent and review of application materials by the hiring company. If I had not been a top performer at University, I probably would not have been moved ahead in the process. It was clearly communicated they only want to hire the best and the smartest people. 2. A dedicated hiring lead sends me a looong e-mail about the steps of the process. 3. I first had to send in a "written interview" - turned out to be 3-4 pages answering several questions about sales/management experience and education (including what I did in high school in the 90s and what my friends would say about me then...) 4. Time for assessment... an aptitude/psychometric assessment (perceptual speed, number speed & accuracy, word meaning, and spatial visualisation) showing (as one example) how fast I can see if a B turned 90 degrees still is a B or a "mirrored" B. 5. First interviews. Three interviews in three days, one hour each, with three "random" people from the company. 6. Another interview with HR. First now getting to know compensation and other benefits tied to the role. 7. Now, I had to record and send in a 15 minute video presentation on a chosen topic, how I would present for potential customers. 8. Again three more interviews in one week, now with direct manager and top management. 9. 3.5 months later, after all this and having the absolute best new employee (me) in "their hands"... Decision with a standard (not personal) mail to move ahead with another candidate. Be prepares to spend MUCH time trying to get a job with this company, and don't expect any personal feedback after that.

      SDR Team Manager Interview

      12 Feb 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Barcelona
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Canonical (Barcelona) in Jan 2024

      Interview

I applied for the SDR Team Manager role. In a short time the HR Hiring lead Claire contacted me via email and asked me to fill out a written interview process. She explained in the email that Canonical uses an initial written interview to get a sense of the candidate's experience, priorities, and how they communicate. She added that they have multiple reviewers assess the answer in an anonymized system to reduce bias and allow candidates from a range of backgrounds to demonstrate their ability, experience and insights. This written interview had several questions regarding sales experinece, management experience, and knowledge about the company but also detailed questions about education with a focus on high school education, hobbies, etc. They highlighted that the use of ChatGPT or any other AI tool is strickly forbidden. To fill out the written interview and answer all the questions in detail it took quite a long time. After that, as the next step, they send an invitation to do the Thomas assessments. It consisted of logical questions and was strongly focused on time/efficiency. After going through these steps I got a reply from Claire stating that they will not be progressing my application further, unfortunately, she gave me no feedback whatsoever. As an explanation she provided this statement: We are receiving circa 80,000+ applications per month for our open roles globally. This does however mean that as a result we are not able to provide specific feedback to you, or indeed offer any career advice... I was quite surprised to see that they asked the candidate to spend hours on the written interview process and they wouldn't even share any relevant feedback regarding their decision.
