      Project Manager Interview

      7 Nov 2023
      Anonymous employee
      Pittsburgh, PA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Carmeuse (Pittsburgh, PA) in Nov 2023

      Interview

The recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn. I had never heard of the company before, but it specialized in manufacturing, which closely aligned with my work at the time. The recruiter inquired if I would be interested in an open engineering position at Carmeuse. While reviewing the company's LinkedIn page, I found a Project Manager position that piqued my interest more. So, I asked the recruiter if I could interview for this position instead of the engineering role, noting that the latter offered lower pay. Similarly, the Project Manager position's salary wasn't ideal, but I wanted to see if there was any flexibility in terms of compensation for this role. The recruiter assured me that with some approvals, they could meet my expectations. At this point, I hadn't even officially applied for the position online. I had two rounds of interviews: one with the Hiring Manager, who is based in Belgium, and another with the Director of the department. Both interviews were conversational, focusing on experiences and "tell me about a time" questions. Since I already had experience in the manufacturing industry, they were able to connect with my experiences. About a week later, I was asked to apply online to have my application in their system, after which I spoke to HR and negotiated the compensation and other benefits. Everything worked out well.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me about yourself. How would you go about conducting a project from start to finish? Do you have customer-facing experience? How would you prioritize stuff, when everything seems to be a priority 1. Have you worked with cross-functional teams? --- and other similar scenario-based questions.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Carmeuse in Jan 2023

      Interview

Three rounds of interviews, one screening call with a recruiter, another with the manager, followed by online personality tests, and then an interview with the broader team. Each touchpoint including the personality test was roughly an hour and a mostly positive experience. While I liked the team, there was one person who I thought was openly hostile to my interview and was intentionally belittling the experience. The more senior individual on the panel made the process positive, as well as the third individual who was incredibly intelligent. Aside from the one individual I thought the experience was generally positive, but was OK with not receiving an offer. I saw they had posted before my interview and posted afterwards. The HR contact was communicative throughout the process and provided adequate feedback from the team. I would apply again, but I am not sure the role is entirely for me.
