      Studio Administrator Interview

      1 Nov 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Yonkers, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Carolyn Ray (Yonkers, NY) in July 2023

      Interview

Began the initial interview process by submitting an application which followed a pre-screening phone call. Everything went great and they were impressed by me. One big red flag however I caught during this initial interview was the salary expectations I submitted which was in line with what was advertised in the job flyer was suddenly too high. I should of ended things there because a bait and switch is a tell-tale sign this employeer is not forthcoming given my experience. I was asked to come to the warehouse where I would be working for an in-person interview with the hiring manager and the owner herself. Keep in mind the office is way up in Yonkers so it's not a breeze to get there, so it would seem wise to make the best of a candidates time while they are there. I had a lengthy interivew with situational based questions and a technical one as I would be assisting with production of goods while managing the studio for color and artistic capabilities/painting. I was shown the facility and was told they would get back to me very soon. One thing that confused me off the bat was, I had maybe a 5 min chat with Carolyn and I was a bit confused why it was so short it the purpose of me there was to interview with her too. They reached out to my references and everything was going A-OK. I was sent an email that they would like me to come into the office for a test day to work and see if I was a good fit. Keep in mind, they haven't confirmed what the salary expectations were for the role, but expected a candidate to make a trip to work for free for the day? When I requested to confirm the salary expectations for the role before proceeding to ensure we were on the same page, the hiring manager said, I would need to meet with Carolyn as it's her decision, but that should have been confirmed the day I came for the interview. They attempted to schedule a zoom meeting with Carolyn (boss) at the last minute on a day (Less than 48hr notice) I made clear out of several other options would not work. They were not willing to compromise with me. The employeer then completely ghosted me. I woud steer clear from this company or just be sure to confirm the process before investing too much energy.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Have you ever had to deal with a difficult client? How do you manage multiple projects at once? If you had to describe yourself in 3 words, what would it be? What if you had to stay late on a day you didn't intend to? What would you do?
