Interview
I attended the campus placement interview for Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (CPCL). When the Point of Contact (PoC) called for the next candidate, it was my turn. I entered the interview room, where there was a panel of 4-5 people, including the HR representative, technical experts, and one woman as part of the team.
The interview started with questions about my family background—how many members are in my family, what they do, and how much land we have.
Then, they moved on to technical questions, starting with my internship at HPCL. They asked about crude and vacuum distillation units. After that, they questioned me about pumps, specifically the advantages of centrifugal pumps compared to other types.
Next, they asked about packing in distillation columns. I explained the types of packing, drew a simple diagram of random and structured packing, and described them.
Finally, they asked about the Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU)—how it works and its purpose.
These are the key points I remember from my interview. I hope this helps!
The interview process includes screening, technical rounds, and HR round. Screening involves resume review and initial questions. Technical rounds test coding, problem-solving, and domain knowledge. HR round assesses communication, culture fit, and salary expectations. Some roles may include a managerial round or case study for deeper evaluation.
