I applied online and a recruiter reached out to immediately to set up a phone screen. The recruiter was informative and enthusiastic over the phone and set up a tech screen with the hiring manager.
The phone screen was an unpleasant experience. Given the role and job description, the interviewer seemed more focused on too many implementation specific details, and failed to assess my overall capability to perform the role. While I didn't have the specific knowledge that she was asking for in her question, she failed to generalize in a way that I could answer. She later asked me a specific implementation detail in HTML which I did I know not know, but instead of moving on, she spent the next several minutes repeating the question. Interviewers should be more open minded to all the different skills the role needs and not just focus on the fact that a candidate does not know how to name an id for an element in HTML.
