As I was already an employee with the company I didn't have the usual process. A colleague was aware of my interest in moving to HQ and when he heard of a new department opening he reached out so that I would be aware. He actually went as far as recommending me for the position to the Director. Once they were aware of my interest I flew to HQ for 7 different interviews, some 1 on 1 and some in a panel setting. Since the department was still in the developmental stages I came in and told them what I expected to do in the role, given my market research into the position. Once an offer was made it took some time to come to terms with an agreeable salary, although it was eventually agreed upon. The relocation package was first-rate and the experience was overall very beneficial for my career.
