Con Edison M&V Engineer interview questions

The interview was smooth until I was asked two very uncomfortable personal questions. I understand that the position requires traveling. But the interviewer straight out asked me if I have any kids. Yes I answered that I have a child, but I am able to accommodate any traveling required. He also asked what my racial background were since he hears a accent in my speaking. I later learned that they will not continue with further interview because I have “obligations” and will prevent me from traveling.
