I applied through their website, had a first round interview via phone, and ultimately a super day at their office in midtown. The people were nice but very quantitatively-minded and very insistent on technical finance knowledge.

First round interview: basic motivational and behavioural questions with a trader. went through some questions from CV and why they would lead me to want the role. discussed my thesis as well.

Got on the phone for a 30 minute interview, the interviewer was very nice but was an hour late due to her meetings. Mostly asked about examples of quantitative/analytical experiences in my resume. Also asked why I wanted to work at D.E. Shaw, and shared his reasons for choosing to work there. Overall cordial and professional.
