I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at D. E. Shaw & Co. - Investment Firm (New York, NY)
Interview
The process started with a written 'short answer quiz,' followed by a phone screen. Finally an onsite that lasted the whole day in their NY office (+ lunch with the manager). The interviews were pretty standard with some being more difficult than the others. Everyone was very nice and sincere throughout the process. I could see why they have such a high standard for hiring - you'll have the feeling that the level of talent in a room is astronomical. I departed with a goodie bag and a very positive experience. Bummed to not get the offer but they were nice enough to give a call and let me know.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at D. E. Shaw & Co. - Investment Firm in Mar 2026
Interview
1 round interview followed by case study followed by more interviews. Was informed I was meeting with the hiring manager for next and final steps - only to be greeted by a rejection email a week after being told I am moving to the next round. Truly disgusted and so much for having “high standards”. Stay as far away from these people as possible if you have any self worth.
