      Algorithm Engineer Interview

      20 Dec 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at D-Wave Quantum in Nov 2023

      Interview

They were looking specifically for someone that had my experience (optimization, local search, constraint programming, etc.). I have deep knowledge on those topics. They asked me a bunch of experience related questions which were a no brainer. Some easy algorithms (leet code easy/mid difficulty). Then there was a round where they asked me questions completely unrelated to the job position or my experience (and if they are related, well guys you’re on a wrong path). Bits and bytes related questions from someone that clearly didn’t want to run the interview. I blandly told him to avoid asking me non sense general knowledge questions (questions that answers are on a wiki page) which obviously was the dealbreaker. Regardless, I don’t think I would have accepted the offer. They gave me a strong impression of a company having a hard time. Competing with well known products like Gurobi or local solver claiming that quantum computing can be the game changer. To me it felt a lot like a failing company trying to survive with some fancy technology they are still trying to figure out how to use. But hey, maybe it’s just me and their stocks will skyrocket in the next few years… time will tell.
