Invited to a 30 minute phone call which I passed, followed by a one hour video interview which I didn’t.
The initial phone interview was surprisingly formal, less a chance to explain who you are and your experience and more of a boilerplate graduate or entry-level style interview which seemed unusual for an experienced position. Expect very generic questions asking to give examples of when you’ve worked under pressure or how you ‘approach projects’, for example. The invitation email gave the impression of it being more of an informal ‘getting to know each other’ opportunity so don’t get caught out and make sure you’re prepared for a more formal back-and-forth. A lot of further detail and context about the role was provided at this time too which was very useful. Despite the unexpected format the interviewer was pleasant.
Second interview was with a senior member of the team the role would sit in. This was over video call and much more as expected. More conversational, referencing my CV to discuss my experience but also providing further detail about the team, the company and the sort of work that would be involved for this role. Interview lasted an hour, interviewer was pleasant and seemed genuinely interested to learn more about my skills and experience.
I found out within a week I had been unsuccessful at this stage. The next step would have been five further interviews with different people. It was unclear whether a further sift would happen after each of these or only after all five had been carried out.
Overall a pleasant experience and the people seemed nice. The one disappointment is not receiving any feedback after requesting it once I had received my rejection email. The rejection email specifically welcomes you to get in touch with any questions but never received a response.

Question 1
What things do you consider when you start a new project?
HR screening call. HR was from HK and was late without apologies. Show no interest in sharing about the role. Probably interviewing others with internal candidate in line. Waste of time
Good overall, I think it went well. The feedback seemed positive and it all seemed okay generally so nothing too much to complain about. This is probably very friendly interview in all fairness as they were very nice but overall I enjoyed it.
I applied online. I interviewed at Deliveroo in July 2021
Interview
Three stages. The first stage is a general interview about the role, your background, level of SQL
Second stage - interview with Business Analyst about SQL. The Third one I don't know.
