      Data Scientist Interview

      5 Dec 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Deliveroo (London, England)

      Interview

As described by others, the interview process is very long. I didn't like that after passing the first stage you had to commit to 4 hours of interviews, and that they only tell you at the end if you get an offer. They say they look at people "holistically", but as mentioned by others I think doing badly in one is enough not to pass. Even more than challenging, I found it all very time-consuming. They tell you not to spend more than 4 hours on the take-home assignment, but that's simply impossible as you also have to prepare a full presentation on it. It was also my first live coding interview, and I can't say I enjoyed it. The process dragged on forever (two months in total). I went weeks without getting dates for all the interviews, and at the end they kept me waiting 3 weeks to tell me I didn't get it, which I thought was extremely rude. The recruiter was mostly friendly, and so were most of the interviewers, but one was really, REALLY unpleasant. I'm sure I wasn't the best candidate so others surely have better chances than I did, but I would consider carefully if you want to commit to such a long process.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I'm so sorry to hear about your didn't have a great interview experience with us. I'll share your great feedback on the demands of the take-home exercise. On the process length and patchy comms, it sounds like we dropped the ball there. Would you mind dropping me an email so I can look into this? I might be able to send you something that'll go some small way to making up for it. jamie.edwards+glassdoor@deliveroo.co.uk - Jamie

      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

      Interview

Straight forward process but very long and arduous with plenty of stages. I'd say it needs to be refined. Interviewers were very professional and rapport building was easy. I would suggest cutting down on the numerous steps in the interview

      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Deliveroo

      Interview

Very long process, 6 interviews and a take home task before being rejected. Brief of the task said don't overcomplicate it but the feedback I received was that I still didn't go into enough detail. So be prepared to spend a lot of time for the interviews. Generally friendly interviewers and easy interview questions, very straight forward standard a/b testing and causal inference questions. Despite this was rejected, would have brushed up on my domain knowledge in retrospect as I probably wasn't very clear answering causal inference questions to a product very different to my experience. The sql test was very easy and I completed all questions correctly, but got some negative feedback on this as I wasn't familiar with postgresql quirks around dates which they marked me down on.
