I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at DigitalOcean in June 2021
Interview
When the process began, I met with a recruiter who was very nice but he showed up about 15 minutes late. Following that call, I believe I met with a hiring manager, can't completely recall, and then they ghosted me for about 2 months. I thought they decided to move with other candidates, but to my surprise, they contacted me asking if I would like to move forward. was willing to proceed (and still am) but I still haven't even had an email back for a week. Their hiring process just needs some work.

Interview
It started off with portfolio presentation with one of the Senior Designer and it was super helpful when he gave me feedback and also letting me know the next step moving forward. I love the rest three interview with two other designers and one PM. It was mix of presentation and explaining my design process. They were super nice and straight forward to what they were looking for.

Interview
DigitalOcean was an overall positive experience during the interview process, but in retrospect, after reviewing the many hiccups along the way, it was actually more of a disaster. Scheduling was a nightmare. The recruiter asked for times that would work for a hangout interview, but then completely ignored the ones I selected. They ended up scheduling a time that I did not even approve. During the interview process, they continually asked questions about my motivations to pursue a master's degree. They even admitted that it was a point of contention for the team, which was one of the strangest things. During the whiteboarding session, the two interviewees flirted with each other the entire time instead of participating or collaborating alongside me in a helpful way. Another interviewee answered the phone while asking questions and had to check slack while interviewing me. This would not have been that egregious if he hadn't continuously cut me off while I tried answering questions. After a day-long interview, I received a voicemail that I was not experienced enough and they were not looking for junior designers at the time. Overall, it was pretty negative and one of the worst interviewing experiences I've ever head (and I've had many).
